I imagine myself to be someone who constantly takes in and collects stories as well as create them. In the video, I’m reading where I’m get more inspiration (aside from what happens in my everyday life which is also a big source of inspiration). From these, I used it to build my own craft. Stories can evoke memories and also Read more →

I feel as though you are trying to blur the boundaries between yourself and the virtual space, creating what we refer to as the third space. Yes, it can truly be a fantastical world! It's true that Facebook Live is not the best quality, but I think your video came out just fine.

#Chuwylives is a social experience that takes you on a virtual real-time monologue on Facebook. What this brings to you essentially is a space where you can be at 2 places or more at a given time, which we have not been able to do so in reality. So, this is the closest we get to time travel.

Issac, your video is not accessible. Do you know what happened? Perhaps you didn't post it after it was finished?
Also, be sure you post a featured image, in this case, you can take a screenshot from the video as I went over it in class.
Hi Randall, I was asked to remove the video by my supervisor as they found it sensitive. I will have to redo it later.
OK, we can discuss.
Hi Randall, Not sure if you've seen it, but I've updated my post with a reshoot of the live video for "Alter-Ego". Also added some thoughts I had about live feeds. Cheers!
the YouTube video is not viewable, plus you need to embed it properly in your post, without placing the link inside the link. Let me know when it's working and take out the Facebook Live link that is dead as well.
Hi Randall, all is working well already:)

I would like to believe that my alter ego is a hoarder, collecting books and hoarding things that I would find important, even if it has no value at all. Though I love to hang out with my friends and enjoy interacting with people, I have to admit that I also love to stay in my comfort zone and Read more →

Hmmm... a bit mysterious, as though you have embedded yourself into the library space. I found I wanted more information about your alter ego, how this knowledge being actually engages with books.
Also, you have the same image duplicated in the featured image, the first frame of the video, and in the post. See how you can have a more varied visual quality in your posts.

Alter Ego

Video and social media gives people the opportunity to disguise themselves and show what they want to portray since people would not know who they really are. This causes people to have a false impression of them where they can be nice in front of their live broadcast but actually they have the worst of personality in front of Read more →

Hannah, I think you are a true modernist, who prefers to present yourself in a finished form. Your work reminds me of Moholy-Nagy or El Lissitzky, two of my favorite artists. I hope though that you will see OSS as an opportunity to value process and also value sharing process with others.

My dream is to be an independent filmmaker – to write and direct my own films. In this video, I acted as if I was promoting a release of a new movie from the editing lab, complete with movie’s Instagram account, poster, and editing platform. I asked for help from one of the students to pose as an editor.

I can see that you are already your alter ego and the artist you want to be! I see your "alter ego" also as an artist who is promoting her work and wants to communicate to people. I am glad you found Facebook Live a good medium for presenting and talking about your work and perhaps you will find ways to extend it in the social realm of social media.

I imagine myself to be a designer who is trying to balance between funding and the concept of a project. I am convincing myself to choose between the idea, the funding as well as the potential to make money out of the project. I could not decide which aspect is the most important, thus, I use the classic method of plucking Read more →

Bao, you are an artist of indecision! And I mean that in the humorous way you depicted the decision making process. I think this is a great video because it is so honest and so revealing about the many choices one has an artist, and you are revealing your alter ego of an artist faced with the difficulty and challenging of moving forward with an artistic project. And you have made a decisive work out of that! That is the wonderful irony in this piece.

The in-class activity of social broadcasting took me by surprise as I was not expecting to be doing something like this on the first day of class. Prior to the live broadcasting experience, I always found social broadcasting to be extremely self-serving and narcissistic. I did not understand the need for people to share their live stories with the world Read more →

Yeah, interesting point on how social media can be self-serving and narcissistic.. Here is an article I read from the NY times... Basically, it has a lot of potential to be a "new form of journalism" but I sense abit of the self-serving part of broadcasting Live which is pretty inevitable. Businesses make use of facebook live for advertising. Facebook also pays companies to churn out a certain amount of videos. Nevertheless, it is an open platform for conversation which is good:) https://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/21/public-editor/facebook-live-too-much-too-soon.html

Social Broadcasting Experience:

Before the broadcast, I was rather nervous at the thought of going live for a full 15 minutes, with no concrete idea of what I was going to do. While I do enjoy taking videos and sometimes posting snippets of them on social media, I was completely unfamiliar with live broadcasting and what was to come.

I agree with you on the point that the beauty of social broadcasting is that it is not choreographed but something done spontaneously as you interact with your friends or viewers. It is interesting that you would like to incorporate social broadcasting into your future projects. What do you think of people portraying themselves on Facebook live even when they know that the viewers could be friends then had not seen for a long time or even strangers that they do not know? Since you personally feel insecure and feel that there is a need to portray yourself as a person people around you would know who you actually are.

Social Broadcasting – Facebook Live A Micro-Project

https://www.facebook.com/dina.anuar/videos/1568556799861769/

Project Description Each student was asked to broadcast via Facebook Live and search for interesting visuals while walking around the school for 15 minutes. At the end of the broadcast, all live feeds of the students would be arranged in a grid to form a ‘video wall’.

The main purpose of this project was to explore how Read more →

Hey Dina, great post! I agree with the activity being quite overwhelming and enjoy reading your experience with stages of quiet isolation as well as finding a person you can physically interact with... I find it is more instantly reassuring and less awkward when there is someone else there is physically rather than someone's online presence...
This may come off as a side note, but while working on a case study on the ADM building, the architect described this structure as post-modern brutalism, which may explain the somewhat intimidating and isolationist ambiance in the corridor, and the never-ending rows of unpainted concrete.

Hello Mirei! I only noticed it after you pointed out in class about the pink lama that appeared in many of the class video! The feeling of your live video is really different from most of the class's video as I think that we are all so used to ADM building, You on the other hand is relatively new to ADM(I think) and will notice the tiny details in the building like how when you walked down the corridor with many lockers, you will go near and inspect the posters and stickers on to the lockers, which many of us wouldn't do. Perhaps you can use the Live video function to introduce ADM to your Japanese friends and inspire them to come for exchange next year! =D Hope to see more of your video in the future!
