@ atan048

In a similar topic to Mobile Phones (Wk3), this week’s topic has a closer look to what we carry.  It is said from Chipchase’s research that Keys, Money and Phones are the most common things at the point of the TED talk, which till now has not changed much.

As written previously in my Wk3 post, the mobile phone is the Read more →

@ Through the Cracks of the Violin

reading this extract is an eye-opener. There are many little bits of details that I would miss out if i were to go on a research trip, like the signs of Do’s and Don’ts and what they imply of a given area, the languages used and how it implies multilingual communities, the icons on the signs and how it implies Read more →

@ /kaywerlyn

Sustainability to me means the ability to be maintained at a certain rate and to use minimal energy while producing the best results. It also means for something to be able to withstand a long period of time and to be able to be passed down from generation to generation, for example an authentic piece of wooden furniture, a technology Read more →

I do agree with Chipchase that we carry items that give us a sense of security, and sometimes this sense of security causes us to carry more than we need. This results in having many things in our bags, pockets and wallets and it can be a burden to carry, but if it is essential to survive and for us Read more →

I understand sustainability as a form of avoidance of the depletion of natural resources, such as oil and coal. Sustainability also means trying to save wildlife as they are connected in the ecosystem to natural resources. There has been a lot of campaigns about sustainability, whether it is to save electricity, save the ocean from garbage, as well as switching to Read more →

I agree with Chipchase’s point that technology advancement makes us carry less, remember less to owning less. Let’s just talk about mobile phones for instance. In the 1990s, we still carried mobile phones that are so bulky, with an antenna on it. Now, our mobile phone is pocket sized and multifunctional. We do not need to carry another hard copy Read more →

@ JO

Chipchase once again talked about the 3 important things we need to have with us: phone, keys, and money. In this chapter, he further analyses the psychological reasons behind them. A few concepts he brought up: range of distribution, center of gravity, point of reflection and ‘strings of the networking yo-yo’.

It is interesting how the range of distribution can vary Read more →

@ LAURA YOUNG

It was interesting to read Chipchases perspective of technology and networking today. He explains the topics about the three items, phone, money and keys he found everyone across many cultures, genders, age and economic strata carried in his Mobile __ talk.  It was interesting to read about his research on how different the ‘range of distribution’ is in different countries, Read more →
