Timothy Nohe’s presentation on Interactive Environment and Experience Design was unlike any other guest speakers’. It was interesting to listen to him share his experiences in his works and installations. His experiences also made me understand that to make an installation successful, you need more than just a designer, but a team of people from different fields of expertise.

Interesting that you describe the lack of connectivity as a "disability" in today's hyper-connected world.  What would happen then, if networks go down in the event of a natural disaster or other unforeseen emergency?
From a networking perspective, most systems would have back up plans, ensuring that the downtime of a network or server would be minimal. Think of not being able to Google something out for 3 hours would affect people who rely on Google for work.   However, if it is a prolonged event, then we will have to adapt to other means of connectivity. The concept of going back to the offline way of living may be distant to the millennials, possibly those who have never known to live without the internet. In light of the hyperconnectivity, I personally foresee a possible future where disconnection is pursued.

The presentation in class by the guest lecturer was indeed insightful. In particular, his suggestion to allow two participants interact with one another to create art allowed another dimension in my thoughts for the iLight proposal.

I met with the leader of the IEM team to convey our discussions in class, so that the IEM side can understand certain aspects of Read more →

Day 1 – What did I do with my phone? The first time that I will touch my phone during the day will be to off my alarm, followed by checking for messages. This is the routine for my day. As I do not have school on Friday, I continued to browse through my social media for a while before I get out Read more →

Timothy Nohe was invited to class to share about his experience and his project on “Light City”. His project was very interesting, how it can be adaptable to different input system (music box; tablet). He showed us how a different input system allows many different types of styles to be created and how the target audience can be different too.

[Response] Thoughtful Interaction Design By Jonas Lowgren

Lowgren brought up about how digital technology is a material that has no qualities, designers are not restricted by anything. He also brought up a good point about how designs should be reflected on again and again to make it more thoughtful. And I would link that to why operating systems such as iOS and Android has multiple multiple updates Read more →

Day 1 (Saturday):

I have a love/hate relationship with my mobile phone.

I can’t really remember when or why I got my first phone, but for as long as I have owned one, I don’t really find myself depending on it. In fact, I used to think that I can survive a long period of time without a phone. I think this Read more →

When Timothy Nohe unveiled all his equipments, including that really cool looking television, I already had a feeling that whatever he was about to show us next would be really awesome.

I was very mesmerised by how he managed to conjure up so many beautiful visuals just by effortlessly twisting the knobs and inserting wires into different ports. I thought, “how Read more →

Timothy Nohe was the guest speaker during class for this week. He gave a presentation on his interactive work titled ‘Light City: Electron Drawing — Visual Music’.

I find it interesting that he used other methods to create an interactive installation for the festival. I think for me, it was such a unique idea. Children in the video can be seen Read more →

I'm sure it was challenging at first not to be continually "connected" but I'm glad to hear that the experience made you attuned to other details or life experiences and perhaps attuned to a different sense of space and self.
