On 25th September, Timothy Nohe shared his experience on designing an interactive public art installation.

Tim designed a non-conventional synthesizer with touch inputs in the form of a box. When audience interacts with the box, their actions will generate a sound which is also visualized on a screen.

What makes it interesting is how the interaction is accessible to anyone regardless of Read more →

Timothy Nohe’s presentation for his interactive touchpad synthesizer shines a new light onto how we can provide a hint for collaboration to take place within an installation.

The most important takeaway I get from Timothy Nohe’s presentation was to make the interaction as intuitive as possible. For example, the touchpad box itself acts as an affordance, giving people the idea that Read more →

Yes, by trying to anticipate user behavior, then observing and testing how viewers will respond (unexpectedly or not)...this is an important factor to consider when designing public art installations.

As I caught a virus that has been going around the school, I unfortunately did not manage to visit the exhibition. Thankfully, I have visited the exhibition prior to this. Therefore, I will be reflecting on my past experience instead.

The thing I absolutely loved about the Future World exhibition is how it was able to immerse viewers into a different Read more →

Future World: Where art meets science

This was my second time visiting the Future World. As this was a permanent exhibition in the Artscience Museum, I was quite surprised that they actually changed up some of the exhibits. This approach attracts people that have already been to the exhibition to go again. However, the main concept of the exhibition still remained the same. The exhibition includes Read more →

As a kid, we had yearly passes to the Cincinnati Children’s Museum where I had the most fun playing in the rain forest playground and walking through the ice age exhibit. These exhibits were educational immersive environments, just as many museum exhibits are designed to be. However, FutureWorld at the ArtScience Museum in Singapore uses technology and interactivity to add Read more →

Future World Reflection

@ Trove

The most memorable installation for me was Black Waves. Going against the norm of trying to impress, it was instead used to calm visitors down after witnessing the exciting Crows Transcending Space. From a technical perspective, it was also interesting trying to figure out how the waves looked realistic yet styled to remind one of Hokusai’s Great Wave. My group Read more →

The field trip to Future World at ArtScience Museum on 18 September is another inspiring learning journey for me.

I have always believed the concept of User Experience could never be applied to an art installation since Art is a self-expression of an individual (there is no “User” per se). This traditional way of thinking, however, is no longer valid when Read more →

Though I’ve been to this exhibition a few times, every time I step in and experience the installations it feels like I’ve never been there before. This time, the immersive experience that I felt was so much more as compared to the previous times that I’ve been there. I was able to take my time and soak in each installation Read more →

Reflection: FUTURE WORLD: Where Art Meets Science

Future World explored 4 different types of narratives namely Nature, Town, Park and Space. We kickstarted the visit in an immersive installation called, “Crows are chased and the chasing crows are destined to be chased as well, Transcending space”. Through the 3-dimensional audio and light projection, I felt totally absorbed into the scene and as a result I got motion-sickness. Read more →

reflection on how and what you experienced, observed, and learned from the visit

It was my first ever trip to Future World @ ArtScience Museum. Normally, my attention span for museums and exhibitions are short but Future World managed to make me feel interested and interact with the exhibitions.

The first exhibit; when it was ongoing, all I could think Read more →
