The open source is an outlet that goes against propriety models as discussed in Vaidhyanathan’s essay. Open source has always been the norm before propriety models came into the picture. Society began to get accustomed towards propriety models which overshadows open source. When copyright was introduced into propriety software, it stopped users from exploiting or copying information online. With such, Read more →

Very good presentation of both sides of the issue. You captured very well the pros and cons of open source, and how it can be used creatively by artists. Besides the featured image, be sure and make your posts more visual, using images to help communicate ideas. And when you use references, be sure to quote with blockquotes. We will go over that in class this evening. Good work!

Open source SUMMARy

@ Farz

Open source is a platform for individuals to share their creative process and ideas. The first article discusses about the risks and downside of a interconnected and media-driven world. Siva also points out the change in the way we project things from past to present times. In the past, copyright was originally for physical copies or media. However, in Read more →

Ros, I like your enthusiasm! You captured some of the main points of open source, but I am curious to know: why do you think that proprietary methods of copyright and ownership might be considered selfish? That is a strong statement, perhaps correct, but should be explained. Be sure and use images that help communicate your ideas, images that are drawn from the readings, rather than "magazine-style" graphics. It would also be helpful to use more concrete examples rather than taking a general approach, even though your comments are very good.

Open Source Culture Summary

@ Jasmine

The concept of open source is a relatively new concept which was a remarkable change away from the traditional methods of creative world production. The introduction of open source gave way to much more brand new possibilities that were not explored given the traditional medium and way of sharing. Open source allows and promotes the interaction from people all around Read more →

Nice description of Open Source!!
Jasmine, you bring up some important concepts about open source. Be sure and note from the Open Source/Open Culture essay, that in fact technology was originally open source and that the proprietary methods came later, particularly in the 1970s when Microsoft and Apple were born, and started making money off of software and computers. You captured the creative potential of open source from my essay, though it would help strengthen your essay to cite specific examples, such as the works of art I mentioned. Very clever graphics!

Micro-Project #2: Tele-Stroll

@ Jasmine

For our Tele-Stroll, Me and Nadiah thought that we could film our livestream at two different locations that is very relevant to us in our daily lives now, in hall for me and at home for her respectively. We thought that we could use this to show the differences in our lifestyles since I stay in hall while she Read more →

OpenSourceCulture: summary

Wednesday, Jan 24, 2018 - 11:31:50 pm

@ hello

Open Source Culture, from what I understand is the system where people in the community share resources so that we sort of bounce ideas and information off each other. This used to be used exclusively to describe software, but since then, has been used to describe various other things such as the idea of having an open (virtual) Read more →

Yes, Jocelyn, co-working spaces are an excellent example of open source thinking, in which there is an emphasis on social interaction and cross-fertilization of projects. You demonstrated a good understanding of open source, and I really liked the video you shared, however, I would encourage you to draw from specific examples from the readings to support your argument. That is the main thrust of our writing assignments. But you have a wonderful writing style and I very much enjoyed your ideas.
Its nice that you included a video to provide a concise yet unconventional way of summarising the 2 essays on top of the written summary.

Open Source Studio

Technology. Merely a byproduct of an idea drawn on paper by men and women, has transformed into one of the most influential advancements in modern society. Specifically the creation and expansion of the World Wide Web, an open source of information designed only 25 years ago. Through a short period of time, the internet has managed Read more →

I was very impressed with your understanding of open source thinking. I like the way you applied the concepts to our use of OSS, which of course is highly influenced by DIWO and other forms of open source practices. Very clever meme, but when you use an image such as from Please Change Beliefs, be sure it is because you are discussing the work in your essay. I would recommend using more specific references and images to incorporate into your essays from the readings and to be sure they are all part of the discussion and analysis. But your general assessment of open source is very good.

Daphne and I decided to create the live broadcast of us getting ready for school in the morning, as both of us experienced long-distance friendships. We always eat with friends through video call or co-broadcasting. Sometimes, we will just leave the broadcast on and do our own work without talking. Thus, for this project, we planned to do our Read more →

@ Daphne Ngatimin

As the remaining three amigos, we decided to do a double pairing, in which my partner became Bella. After a few brainstorms, we decided to do something ordinary for girls, something that happens daily for most girls. This led to the idea of girls getting ready together. Have you ever wondered why girls go to the bathroom together or even Read more →
