Summary on Sida Vaidhyanathan’s article

Open source is originally a software term but it has since been used as a collaborative and creative term. The concept of open source was created as a response to the proprietary model. The proprietary model was deemed as selfish, restrictive and limiting because of copyright. Under this model, big software companies had the rights to refused Read more →

Excellent essay, and I liked the fact that you brought in a few examples that were outside the readings. This demonstrates originality of research and I am very impressed. You might also consider the Hive at NTU, where rooms are setup in groups, or even our room 2-23, encourage open sharing and interaction between students as another form of the art of the social practice. Your essay is extremely well written and well-referenced. Great work!!

Summary and Reflection? Here we go! To kickstart the topic, I have included a video which may clarify anyone’s doubt on the idea behind Open Source concept. The explanation is simplified into a straightforward yet uncomplicated comparison to the notion of LEGO building.

Good examples! Like the lego video.
Thanks, Bella ;-)
Excellent! Sorry I am just now reading your post, I somehow missed it last week. You covered all the essential points of open source thinking and your essay is well researched, and you show a good understanding of the readings.

@ hello

For this project, I was paired up with XiangRei, who happens to be one of my ex classmates from our previous school, Nanyang Junior College. We discussed about the telestroll and wanted it to be kept relatively simple- no need to travel outside of NTU, no need for fancy tricks in our video. The main point of our Read more →

Glad to see you are working hard to get the tele-stroll working. Are you still having trouble getting it into landscape mode? Let's discuss in class.

Doing the Broadcasting

Going live on Facebook is not necessarily the first thing I expect out of the first lesson of Experimental Interaction. Nonetheless, it was spontaneous. I did my live broadcasting in a vlog (video blogging) style. The content was the one I was worried about, what am I going to say? What am I going to video? Will it Read more →

@ ♡♡♡♡♡

This was such a cute activity though awkward because I barely know any of my classmates and we had to do it around ADM where so many people are just walking around and staring. To be able to see all of the live videos together on the live wall so intriguing. I love it!

This was honestly quite fun for me especially since I have never done a live anywhere before be it Facebook or Instagram. I did not know what to film as well so I just went around school filming the structures in school and my classmates. I also captured a short scene of the barbecue happening in school haha. SUMMARY

Entering the Experimental Interaction classroom, I had no idea what we would be expecting. We could assume that it would be about different modes of interaction from physical to spacial but we never really thought about internet. Internet has become the main mode of communication between people locally and globally. Internet connects us as well as serves Read more →

It was really interesting walking around the school, like a visual diary, and the way we interact to a camera is a very different experience when you are walking by yourself or with you friends.

We spend a lot of time angling the camera to capture what we see in the camera, also working with new technology makes it difficult to Read more →

It is interesting how the Internet can bring everyone into the third place, where we can share what we experienced in the 15 minutes at the same location on the little screens. In the past 15 minutes, I tried to interact with people who are watching the live broadcast although I might not know them. Also, I started talking to Read more →

At the beginning of the project, I was very afraid and  of this project, as I felt that it invaded my privacy. However as I begin to stream, I begin to ease into the idea of social broadcasting. I grew more comfortable and even enjoyed it. I like the aspect of doing a dual broadcasting, where my Read more →
