For more information about process and execution, please feel free to take a look at the links in the below:

Great storyline & detailed photography going on here girls! Including the 3 KEY sound lexicon & explaining how they relate to the final choice of materials... as well as the perspective sketch of Kokopelli making his way through the dark woods would make a more complete presentation.

@ Joel Lee

Am impressed with the graphics boys! :) As mentioned would have been better if the falling beads were drawn more randomly, also some annotation for all the individual components in the exploded axonometry would have made a solid presentation... (Eg: draw in the beads or show where they are stored etc...)

[Kokopelli's Sound Shaper] Research!

Sup guys!! I drew the body part ‘feet’ for Kokopelli’s body part so how now brown cow. It’s time to search the re!! Research. To be honest I think there’s a whole ton of stuff you can do with your feet! But when it comes to conforming to the shape of the foot I think that narrows down our options Read more →

Great feet research! Niki! Would have been fantastic if JJs feet could have performed all the stunts featured in the videos you uploaded! ;)

In The Eyes of Kinetic Beasts - Research

@ Bird Whisperer

A flea also has spines around its head and mouth — the number and shape vary according to the flea’s species. The mouth itself is adapted for piercing skin and sucking blood. Several mouthparts come together to form a needlelike drinking tube.

How a flea operates;

Two sawlike laciniae cut the skin. They also fit together to form a saliva channel. The epipharynx Read more →
Hilarious cartoons JJ! :P Do try to include a diagram showing the trajectory of a flea’s leap in comparison to it’s size just as you’ve shown me on Friday with Fran.

Hi Minjee hope you find the time to make amendments to your layout as suggested earlier... would be useful for your own personal portfolio...

KINETIC BEASTS // plover birds research

@ Minjee

When I was assigned the crocodile and plover bird, the first thing that came to mind was a childhood picture book.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZA2uIOytk4&t=31s

The main characters are Bill the Crocodile and his “toothbrush” friend Pete the bird. How they help each other seemed to be the perfect representation of the win-win relationship the animals have with each other.

After observing the Plover bird Read more →

Some detailed research here Minjee! As mentioned in class, if specific information on the Plover bird is hard to find, try to draw some generic conclusions to assist you in making your combined kinetic beasts. Hope you’ll find a way to work out making a series of synchronised pecking motion & meet the challenge of it responding to thermal changes.

A very good summary on some of the ant’s characteristics Dion! Clever kinetic manipulations of ant movement too shown on Friday. See if you can make the combined kinetic beast less “boxey” & find a way to show multiples of it (maybe by using a mirroring effect).. as ants work in teams.... although I know you mentioned it being a personal relationship between AN ant & aphid. I think it gives you an opportunity to think both macro (many ants in action) & micro...(1 ant/ aphid)

Kokopelli's Sound Shaper Part 1 - Process

@ Joel Lee

Brendan and I began to explore our sounds further and we looked into what the eyes and arms represented.

We incorporated the best elements from each of our sound models which was the representation of the eye as a shutter as well as the relation of my sound to a humming bird.

Thanks Joel for the detailed process documentation! Am impressed you managed to split the bamboo evenly into quadrants without a proper cross-cutter. Yes indeed the 2 of you captured the essence of 風 really well...but am glad you pushed yourselves to include the micro sounds of the beads “pin-ball machine” because it really does add another dimension to the overall sound textures created.
Should upload a video with sound!

A Kokopelli's Sound Shaper part 2- Finalisation

@ castrochronicles

After the first review, we had a lot more interesting ideas given by Cheryl as well as the class. We know that there were a few changes necessary to make the final work even better, as listed below:

Remove the “kaze” shell that covers the inner mechanics of the final product

Tighten the mechanics and ensure that Read more →

Thanks Brendan for continuing with the process documentation... am glad you uploaded a sound video. Given the time span & budget, both of you did an excellent job in the conceptualization of Cicada... just slight tweaks in choice of material would have resulted in a sturdier prototype... but anyhow, well done! :)
