[In the Eyes of Kinetic Beasts] Research!

Niki

Friday, Mar 23, 2018 - 12:29:49 am

@ n i k i

I’m paired up with Yinghui for this assignment, and the pair of creatures we got were the fire sea urchin (mine), and the urchin crab (Yinghui)!

As there are a number of urchins who look like they’re on fire ahaha, I decided on the astropyga radiata, who are well-known for being ferried about by carrier crabs

Thanks for sharing the interesting urchin research finds Niki! Hope you can amalgamate all your finds & tease out something unique for your combined kinetic beast!
Especially loved your Creature Report finds... lol

#003 Research I - In the Eyes of Kinetic Beasts (Clownfish)

@ hantallie

Of the nearly 30 species of clownfish, there are two types commonly referred to as the orange clownfish (Amphiprion percula and Ocellaris). The percula clownfish is distinguished by its vivid orange colour with distinctive white bands outlined in black.

All clownfish are born male. As they mature, they usually pair off with another clownfish, and the dominant individual becomes a female. The Read more →

Clear explanation on the relationship between sea anemone, clownfish & starfish here.... more sketches on the clownfish swimming motion or dance patterns would be useful in your understanding of its kinetic movement vocabulary.

IN THE EYES OF KINETIC BEASTS: APHID RESEARCH

@ NOKWAN

ANATOMY

ANT x APHID

The relationship between aphids and ants is symbiotic in that both receive some benefit from the arrangement.

Aphids are also known as plant lice, they are very small sap-sucking insects that collect the sugar-rich fluids from host plants.

Aphids consume large quantities of a plant to gain adequate nutrition. They then excrete Read more →

i want to see pictures of aphids please

look in the mirror

Lol! I share your sentiments Brendan... but for fear that Nok Wan asks me to look in the mirror as well, I would say she has cleverly found an apt metaphor to represent the ant & aphid relationship... ;) From your research, it does make the ant sound rather conniving & manipulative creatures... breaking their wings & impeding their growth!?! poor aphids... Great job with the stylized aphid fact file summary.... :) I hope you girls find an interesting way to incorporate the free falling with the scrambly ant legs in your combined kinetic beast!

SEA ANEMONE

RANGE OF MOTION

When the sea anemone closes its mouth, the water in the gut cavity acts as a hydrostatic skeleton, enabling it to expand longer and thinner or shorter and fatter or to bend in any direction.

Nok Wan, the text is too long to be a bedtime story unless it’s intentional to lull them to sleep... Zzzzz Thanks for the story inspiration Brendan! Summarized would be great! :)

[F&V] Kokopelli: Kokobelly Prototype

@ Francesca

Looking down at his floppy belly, Kokopelli realised that he had been gaining weight! Hence, Kokopelli decided to make a belly workout gear to motivate himself to get back to shape! To challenge himself further, his workout gear has to incorporate the following sound qualities: squeak, elastic medium, and threshold of pain.

And behold… join Kokopelli on his weight-loss journey and his amateur dabble Read more →

I’ve absolutely enjoyed seeing the  Kokobelly evolve. Excellent job girls! Do compile a complete “construction-cum-functional guide” showing how it is designed to train & shape up belly muscles for their entire Range of Motion & also a perspective drawing of Koko doing his belly workout:)
