Mock-up progress
We bought 100 aluminium rods with varying lengths for our mockup. We are in the midst of drilling holes in the rods for the wire to be glued on. The rods will be sanded and spray painted with different colours according to the colours of the buildings on the official NTU map.
We will be cutting a ply wood Read more →

First section: Mind map, Sketches and 2D drawings
The mind map shows our thought process and how we see the NTU. We found that the two major aspects of a university is the students and the faculties. Thus, we decided to the find a connection between the two which is the social networking amongst students through the different faculties. We Read more →
Week 10 Update

For the previous week, we did revised mock up and 3D model of how we envisioned our installation, to form an imagery of the NTU map with the hanging/suspended objects (which represents the students of the school).
However, we realised that it may not be as easy as we thought for the audience to see the same imagery we want them Read more →
Week 9 Progress

Here is a recap of what how we would like to proceed on our idea:
We wanted to see how the arrangements would look like virtually thus our renderings below. We wanted to see the scale of the installation therefore we input human models (man: 1720mm, woman: 1660mm).

Week 8-9 Progress

Week 8
While we were brainstorming of methods to create sound from the previous weeks’ concepts, we had pendulums and wind chimes as an instrument.
However, we decided to look deeper into pendulums and wind chimes because we wanted the user to have the experience of touching and seeing of the entire installation.
So we laid out our ideas as such below:

The Back-Up Plan
With the use of rectangular blocks to represent the buildings of NTU, we were thinking of uniformity or contrast for the form of our piece.
Uniformity: The boundary of NTU will be angular, complementing the shape of the buildings.
Contrast: The boundary of NTU will remain as it was: curvy. But we were thinking of simplifying the Read more →

Magnetism idea (rejected)

Recap:
Chosen concept: As stated, we are focusing on students’ behaviour of social interaction in NTU — Our main focus is on the randomization of students interactions and social gatherings within NTU.Through our personal experience, we found that we would meet many people along the way during our university experience be it via hall, course, events or even just travelling in Read more →
Week 7: Technical aspects
After finalising our concept last week, we were tasked to work on the technical aspect of the installation which is how to create the repulsion to cause the balls to disperse in a randomized way.
Through researching, we found that we could only control the qualities of a magnet through creating an electromagnet. However, during the testing we found many loopholes Read more →
