Presentation Board Fiona x Shanelle

Below is a copy of our presentation board layout and content, do advise if there’s any needed changes needed, thank you!

since your design is site specific, what do you think to add the map where the pangolin was found in NTU?

Form exploration II Fiona x Shanelle

Last week,

Feedback gathered last week:

Scales are way too small and doesn’t resemble how Pangolin scales are arranged. Scale it up and arrange it to look more like a Pangolin, not a fish. Bench/tail area is way too flat, redesign it such that it has more volume. Modules does not necessarily needs to vary in size/fully Read more →

Form exploration II Fiona x Shanelle

This week we are exploring forms that:

Allows the sculpture to swirls around the tree w/o interfering the growth of the tree. How can we improve on the form such that it can be distinguish that it’s inspired by a pangolin. How can we improve on the form such that the end form an Read more →
It looks OK but perhaps it needs stronger presence I suggest you to make it a bit bigger, increasing the scale size in the sitting area and making a longer tail stainless steel frame and wooden scales would be good

Form exploration Fiona x Shanelle

Location: Hall 7 This week we decided to do a recce at Hall 7, where the Pangolin once appeared. We wanted to go out and get a rough idea of where exactly we could place our sculpture in hall 7, how big would the dimension of the sculpture be and what kind of function could the Read more →

Ok, go ahead with form definition please, leave some clearance to the tree to allow maintenance and growth

Mock-Ups Fiona x Shanelle

Last session’s feedback:

Choose a direction. Overall form not conveyed. Do not use any difficult materials. Be specific about the dimensions, location, the reason behind the location, how people interact with it. Find out where was the Pangolin found and place the sculpture there.

Our reflection:

Going towards direction 1 is boring as it is no longer about making Read more →
I think you need to define better the shape of the structure Is it supposed to be used as a sun shelter? what do you think it can be used for? seats? barbecue? bus? when do you expect the scales moving? are you still interested to make it moving with change of temperature?

Ideation Fiona x Shanelle

Feedbacks gathered the last session:

What is the overall form of the structure? Shade, trellis and pangolin-inspired form, are all three combining well? Which one is more conceptually relevant, more representative of NTU, more promising of good results? A function is defined by its creator and you define it. The function doesn’t necessarily have to be solely functional Read more →
You need to decide one direction and proceed with it. I wouldn’t recommend the bimetal elements,  they required a lot of experimentation and you have no time for it. shade and trellis are fine but so far the proposal you’re showing up here is shapeless, it’s a module that can be assembled. You have to design something with that modules. we want to see your proposal: dimensions, materials, find a location and motivate your choice. The installation should be relevant, it should dialogue with the surrounding environment and with the users, what the people is supposed to see-touch-use-enjoy-remember...? Can you show some progress by next week? Please, no writings but drawings

Purpose Fiona x Shanelle

Moving forward, from our previous progress. We decided that we need to be more specific as to:

How can we improve the well-being of people in the campus? What do we mean by well-being? How can we improve well-being as defined? What is the current situation in a particular context that is lacking that reduces or add Read more →
if I understand correctly you are looking for: allowing parasite plants to climb on the structure, providing shadows, use the pangolin inspired modularity for a tiled structure. what kind of structure are you thinking? where do you think is needed? are these three functions really combining well? are all three really necessary? if asked to choose, which one is more conceptually relevant, more representative of NTU life, more promising of good results?   materials research will follow after fully answering to the above questions

Research Fiona x Shanelle

Objective

NTU is surrounded by nature and greenery, however, many students spend most of their time indoors in school. Prior research has shown that nature and greeneries offer an opportunity to relax our directed attention, thus providing relief from mental fatigue. Exposure to nature greeneries repulses depression in adults.

Our main objective for this project is to improve Read more →

How can the function of the characteristics of pangolin be related to the space and environment of NTU?
