Week 4: Progress
We decided to work further on our first idea, the map of NTU.
The project should be more interesting and interactive but at the same time not lose the original concept behind the piece.
Our idea is to turn the map into a game which requires student to work together to complete an objective.
We went on to search for game Read more →
Concept for Installation
Rachel FongMonday, Feb 05, 2018 - 09:15:26 am
Source of inspiration: The Human Spine
Observations: 1 / Only serves its purpose if the individual bones are connected together. 2 / It does not work if there is no main component. 3 / It is a source of strength, support and stability. 4 / A healthy spine keeps balance, and it also had to be balanced.
What we aim to produce (meaning behind installation, description Read more →
Week 3: First Concept

School, to us, cannot be called what it is if it does not consist of the most important element: students. The school do not make the students, but rather, the students make the school.
With this as our concept, we realised that the idea of this is very similar to the spine. The spine is the main support for the human Read more →
Week 3: Concept Development
Ummi KaltsumSunday, Feb 04, 2018 - 11:11:05 pm
After Week 2, we re-looked at the concept and thought we would want to have a concept that worked around a recreation space in NTU.
We had 2 ideas at this point:Inspired by mushrooms as they grow in clusters, similar to how we had the impression of the students in NTU from Week 2: bond and having circle of friends.
This idea Read more →
Chen Yue & Matthew - Week 3
Matthew OngSunday, Feb 04, 2018 - 10:08:26 pm
Nowadays, we are so used to just charging all sorts of electronic devices such as handphones and laptops from the power socket or portable charger. We take electricity for granted and it seems like there is endless power to use. We barely spare a thought about how much electricity we use and how it was generated. How can we, NTU, Read more →

(if I remember correctly, that was the narrative that was given….)
Exploration on Time through Sound
We started by listing out some of our main focuses for this project.
Themes & thoughts: Time through sounds. “An invitation to PAUSE, view, be with, and to explore.” “To bring attention to sounds that have been ignored to forefront” “Expressions of each other, is time or sound the key focus?” To look at how discursive design can help bring our messages across.

DR3005 - Week 3
JoSunday, Feb 04, 2018 - 03:16:00 am
Our design was inspired by wild mushrooms, as we felt that we could create a practical and functional sculpture that could retain the original, natural form of the mushroom without too much deviation, as the theme was in relation to nature.
Originally, when we were thinking of an inspiration, we came across a natural Read more →

‘Victor Papanek- design for the real world’
Our interpretation of Flusser (The beautiful and the nice)
Concrete experience cannot be substituted for a communicated idea or concept because they are not equivalent, because when the concrete is transcribed into another medium for means of communicability, it loses its ‘essence’ so to speak. It is a personal and unique endeavour because each person Read more →
DR3005 - Week 1 (The infra-ordinary)
JoSunday, Feb 04, 2018 - 02:43:45 am
Interpretation of ‘The Infra-Ordinary’
Our interpretation of Georges Perec’s piece is that we as a greater society and as individuals have become jaded toward that which makes our lives possible living. The cogs of the system so to speak. We take the things and structures and processes around us for granted, not realizing the possibly extraordinary or Read more →
