Combined post for week 10 & 11

Moving on from Week 9, We went off to study existing ‘playground’ design to understand the engineering behind it. Based on the study, we explored the way in which the structure is design, methods of assembly and how the ropes are arranged so that it can support the pressure/weight/tension introduced by the users.

From last week’s consultation we started exploring how we could arrange the furniture so that they would make sense together and apart. We also thought of the location and how these sculptural furniture pieces could be contextualized in the space through the application of different materials

many of the structures proposed the previous weeks were too complex and dominates over the shadows i.e. viewers focus on the form rather than the shadows keep the structure of the installation simple use a combination of opaque and translucent material instead of only translucent to show more contrast

One of the biggest concerns for our installation is how the whole system operates and how to ensure safety of the passengers . We came up with the concept of locking the boat in place at the platform when passengers are embarking and disembarking by stopping the pulley system. Last Week

On Week 10, we have presented three variation in different material combinations.

We have decided to use wood and metal as the material for the construction of the installation as it seems like the most economic, sustainable and feasible choice of building material out of the other two (Concrete and Polycarbonate).
