@ Christy Stephanie

I had a few ideas at this point (See the concept for each on each as a caption when you hover over the thumbnail). Ultimately, as the concepts got too broad, Prof and I decided that we should narrow down to a more focused concept. Despite the diversity of ideas generated, Prof noticed that the robot is a constant fascination Read more →

After all those research, I came up with my initial compositions. I admit that they are pretty direct since I initially didn’t really take satire illustrations as a consideration. I was more into the style and story-telling, which did not represent the irony.

So after some class sessions, I found an idea. That is to portray a quote into the Read more →

Hola! I love your illustration style, its so cute yet hides the sinister side of our f&b industry/consumption patterns.  Maybe instead of having text on the pump you could have like a bulbous, inflated burger pump? and maybe balloon boy could be dressed in Ronald macd's iconic clown suit? Just a suggestion since you were thinking of adding satire elements in your piece:-)
Hello! I think the illustration style you've picked is very suitable to convey your concept in a dark manner! Maybe you can remove the bucket collecting the 'insides' of the boy and just have different elements of consumption (like cheeseburger or soda) all splattered on the floor to kind of give the feel of disgust. And following up with Grace's feedback, I actually think it's okay to keep one of the texts. Usually it's better to show than tell, but because of your moodboard, I noticed they incorporate a lot of unique typography into their illustrations so I think you can try to implement it into your illustration as well :)

From the 3 themes for Varoom Magazine cover, I chose the ‘Obsession’ theme. And obesity is the type of obsession that I would like to represent in my illustration.

First of all I had several ideas and did some research. I want to go to a 50s Cartoon illustration, which is hyperbole, a bit disturbing, but cute at the same time. I Read more →

concept: negative impacts of empathy

1

idea 1 is revolved around the idea of putting up a sunshine front (hence sunflowers) when empathising; but too much empathy hurts yourself in the process, thus the thorns at the back

2 (two versions)

the theme for idea 2 is “drowning in another’s emotions” when empathising with them

also not shown in the sketch, but Read more →

I really like the drowning in tears composition! My favourite. It has a super unique style and also a great concept. But i find it hard to distinguish between the crying face and the drowning girl. I also like the person hugging a cactus. This really expressed me and my assignments right now! Im not sure if it fits the topic empathy as good as the one i mentioned above because the person is looking kind of depressed and self-destructive. (would reach hot on 9gag with a good headline)

concept: negative impacts of empathy

(disclaimer: a lot of these sketches are just me vomiting out what i have in my head so some are not as refined or well-thought, and i have no idea what they really mean lol)

1A  midst of thorns and vines

1B  going through thorns and vines

1C  a refined version of 1B???

2A  similar to 1B, more straightforward Read more →

HELLO!:) Looking at your compositing, to be honest I had a hard time choosing:) a lot of them are really interesting and original :) for example I like, 1a,1b,2b,3c(the bone arms), 4c,5a. Im so greedy:) But because they conveys the idea really well and I thought these composition could be quirky cute but represent a deep impact meaning:) especially hugging cactus and the boney arms:)

My Focus

Here are some of the areas I want to focus on.

Controlling the LOVE OBJECT

In more extreme cases, the one with the disorder will want to control the love object’s movement and life. It’s as if he has become the love object.

2. From the Perspective of the Love Object.

Did an interview with someone who was the love object Read more →

Hi Jaiman As we discussed in class I think your latter sketch is the strongest both conceptually and compositionally. I would however review the positioning and/or expression of the 'trapped' person to convey that they are trapped and not just sleeping/ dreaming. Check out these fun and quite disturbing illustrations for some inspiration ... http://www.ufunk.net/en/artistes/trapped-in-pop-culture/ Look forward to seeing your progressions next week. Have a good break Lisa
Hola! I really enjoy your sketches, they all have a sweetly melancholic feel to them which is inline with your theme. Since your inspiration is from "apple of my eye" perhaps you might consider exploring a more zoomed in composition on the face? And maybe the division could be at the eye? Because currently I'm slightly confused looking at the last image I thought this lady really liked apples hahaha like maybe something she and her love object likes. Also maybe since the apple is so iconic in this narrative, maybe it could be like a poisoned apple? Or a rotting apple? Just some suggestions!: -)
