Reading the interview of Massimo Vignelli was particularly inspiring as the recent contemporary art modules I have had have been revolving around the values of contemporary artists and their relationship with their target audience.

Back tracking to the progressions of art movements introduced to us, we are able to magnify and zoom out for greater details since the chapter Read more →

This features a packaging by Van de Velde for the German food manufacturer Tropon and to create publicity. Amongst all the art pieces, this is my favourite one as I greatly appreciate the Art Nouveau style. This advertisement for egg whites adopts an Read more →

‘Of wildflowers and pigeons’

This design is inspired by the wildflowers and pigeons that we commonly see along the streets of Singapore. They are so common that I think Singaporeans do not take particular notice of them so I wanted to create an aesthetic pattern inspired by the art nouveau style to bring out the beauty of these common subjects. @ C.C.H.J.CHO

Our final creative response for our History of Design is a piece of work inspired by the Bauhaus school; specifically the ideology set by Wassily Kandinsky. Wassily Kandinsky believed that there was universal connection between basic geometric shapes and colors. Circles should be blue. Squares should be red. Triangles should be yellow. Through a survey taken in class, I discovered Read more →

‘Homes within home’

This composition that I have created was inspired by the flats you see around Singapore. The semicircles at the top and bottom join together to form a circle while I made use of squares and triangles to form the flats. I realised that the hierarchy of the shapes in the art pieces of the bauhaus movement is Read more →

Here is my creative response for the Bauhaus presentation, titled “Singalluminati.”

The Bauhaus was part of a political discussion about the future of Europe. While the USSR is long gone and the “Red Scare” has passed, political discourse is more relevant than ever in today’s era of income inequality, corporate lobbying, and “fake Read more →

“A House is Not A Home”

The Housing Development Board (HDB) was formed in the 1960s to clear squatters and slums and solve housing issues in Singapore. This is achieved by building and resettling Singaporeans high-rise, low cost state-built housing that has since then become iconic in Singapore and is one of the many things that make Singapore unique.

“Where is Singapore Located” Searches Spike Because Americans Are Bad At Geography (link).

Something fascinating about Singapore would probably be its status as an anomaly. We’re a developed island city-state surrounded by developing nations, we have a Chinese majority amidst a Malay-dominated region, we lack a distinctive ‘natural’ identity as opposed to one ‘crafted’ by the amalgamation of foreign cultures, Read more →

Very interesting careful construction of a new Singapore "identity"
Interesting construction on this topic!
