This project reflects my own thoughts and emotions regarding the relationships in my life. It basically asks the audience to judge other people based on whatever they may know about them. It brings to mind the idea of dating sites and apps such as Tinder and even the whole process of people ‘liking’ things on Facebook and other social Read more →

INTERACTIVE II: SEMESTER PROJECT - Phantom

Chou

Thursday, Apr 23, 2015 - 10:38:34 am

@ Ting Chou

This is an experimental project to trick people into sensing a ghost by seeing and hearing when they interact with the “air”. They only can see the ghost on the screen projected from the top down camera. However, they can’t see the “real” ghost right beside them. This would make them feel skeptical to the environment as well as the feedback.

The Lego Pincher

https://youtu.be/Vr2szkArxp8

This project is to explore on the sense of touch using the phidgets motors.

We came up with the idea of pinching/grabbing stuff by putting it in between the motors.

The motors will move together simultaneously, creating a pinching action.

Using the touch sensor and teabox, user could send a pinch and the other party would receive a ‘pinch’.

The pinchers are Read more →

Little did they know that we are out to scare them and capture their reaction.

Sunday, Apr 12, 2015 - 02:15:01 pm

@ The Anatomy Of Life & Death

Introducing ‘Spycam’! Always wanted to control your friend’s webcam position?! With Spycam, you are able to spy your friend’s private space by invading his space that he doesn’t want you to see!

When one is chatting or skype-ing on video with another, the video is motionless and still. It would be interesting if both parties are able to control each other’s webcam camera Read more →

This stroking finger device mimics the action of a person stroking his/her finger across your skin. I felt that it was apt considering how often we use our fingers to navigate computer screens via mouse or touchpad.

The finger attachment is joined with a loose hinge that enables it to glide across the skin smoothly and also move further than Read more →

Wonderful! I was wondering if this could be used as a torturing device as well! Instead of an eraser, replace it with a knife or a blade. That would bleed nicely! Anyway, love the little mechanism there! This mechanism would be relevant for Cindy/Vivian's drawing devices for their final assignment!
Thanks! Haha yeah I guess it could work as a torture device. Hmmm yeah the mechanism might work because it ensures their drawing tool will always be in contact with the surface but it might not provide enough pressure.

I did 2 parts in this exercise: 1. Interactive book  2. A moving skeleton hand

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bi7luu70PYM

1. Interactive book

The idea is an interactive book which could open and close by itself when your hand is flipping in the air. The bendable sensor controls the feedback, like waving your hand to the device (Imagine you are flipping the book, but it’s in air).  The motor is installed Read more →

The Butterfly Effect

We chose to emulate a classic example of interactive art installation based on motion tracking.

Once a person is detected on camera, there will be projected images of butterflies hovering on the person on screen.

When the person leaves, the butterflies disappears as well.

We call this the Butterfly Effect; that the scientific theory that a single occurence, no matter how Read more →

Our group used this as a part of our final project reference. But this website is too awesome. The sounds and music it generated is so melodious.  I guess this is the closest I can be to be a DJ. Definitely worth it to go and have some fun. Click the picture below to try.

My reference for emulation “The V Motion Project” – it was a collaboration between many creative people working together to create a machine that turns motion into music.
