Group Production Session

Description

Week 12: April 8 – 14

Everyone will bring their final project materials to work on during class. I will review the materials and provide individual feedback and critique. Be sure you are prepared to work in class during the full three hours and have with you all media, software, and any other required materials.

Assignments

Due Next Week: Wednesday, April 15

1 – Final Project Performance/Presentation & Critique

Each student will be allocated 10 minutes to present or perform their final project, followed by discussion. Please see the Final Project page for additional information.

Due Next Week: Friday, April 17

2 – Project Hyperessay III: Conclusion

The concluding installment of the Project Hyperessay will give you an opportunity to synthesize the elements of your project. For the final installment of the Project Hyperessay, create a “page” rather than a post and don’t worry about giving it a category. Please call the page by the title of the project rather than “Project Hyperessay.” See Project Hyperessay in Project Assignments for additional information.

Due Monday, April 20

3 – Cyberformance Critique

As the final assignment in our performance of “we r now[here] by Helen Varley Jamieson, each of you will write a Cyberformance Critique. We will discuss the performance in class on Wednesday, April 8 to help you frame your Cyberformance Critique hyperessay, which is due on Monday, April 20th. See the Symposium Performance Project page for assignment details.

Outline

Student Evaluations

Please be sure to complete the evaluations form before they are due on April 19th. We will discuss the concept and approach of the course to help you assess your experience. These evaluations are very important and help the School insure the quality of teaching and curriculum. Please remember to pay close attention to the numbering system: the high numbers mean that you agree with the question, and the low numbers mean you disagree. Some students have done this backwards, so I wanted to be sure it is clear.

We will do the evaluations in class. Here is the link.

FYP

If anyone is doing their FYP next year with a focus on the Internet and/or performance as a medium for your practice, please let me know if you are looking for an FYP advisor.

Micro-Project III: Disembodied

I would like to give credit to anyone who wasn’t able to finish the project. Please email me your Max patch so I can review it. If you would like to finish it, we can setup an appointment.

Cyberformance Critique

As the final assignment in our performance of “we r now[here] by Helen Varley Jamieson, each of you will write a Cyberformance Critique, due Monday, April 20th. I want you to first review the performance documentation. Then synthesize the entire process of how we collectively created, rehearsed, discussed, and performed the work. For full details see Symposium Performance Project page.

Hyperessay #3 – Conclusion

Complete your final Project Hyperessay #3 Conclusion as a “page” for your WordPress site. This is assignment is due Friday, April 17th. Give the page the same title as the work itself. You should then have three pages on your site: Home, About (bio), Final Project (hyperessay conclusion). See Project Hyperessay page for full details.

We will review the creation of a page in WordPress, and how to add it to your menu.

Final Project

The final project will be performed or presented on Wednesday, April 15th in our final class. Each student will have 10 minutes to present from Powerpoint, your Project Page, or from the work itself, such as a video, Web page, etc. In your presentation of the work, discuss the process of how it was made, what you learned, how it related to key concepts of the course. I am particularly interested in how you synthesized what we have discussed this semester and how these ideas helped you shape your final project. For additional details, see the Final Project page.

Review Grading Criteria

Over the next two weeks I will be completing all the assessments as the work is handed in. Grading should be completed by around the 22nd of April. I have adjusted the grading percentage slightly to incorporate everyone’s work on the mobile cam exercises, the symposium performance and the cyberformance critique. See the About page for details.

“We r now[here]”

We will have a discussion of the symposium performance work, exploring the individual experience of the work as compared to the audience experience. What was it like to perform on a virtual stage? What did you learn about course concepts from the experience? What was your experience of the process of collaboration with Helen? We will explore these questions and others.

Group Production Session

The remainder of class will be spent working on final projects and I will look at everyone’s work to provide critique and direction.
