Research (Week 03)

After last week consultation, I dive straight into looking at microscopic images of brain, cells & other related imageries and I find them really fascinating.
One common thing that I’ve found among all my research is that they all have this “veiny” looking structure, almost like a vector line art which I thought was pretty interesting.
Based on the images, I managed Read more →

Idea III:Ero guro and Japanese Setsuwa

Overview/Abstract
This (experimental) project has to do with a previous work for URECA surrounding mythology as well as previous research in the field of Japanese erotic-grotesque (ero-guro-nansensu) With a special focus on grotesque representations in Japanese tales, this work hopes to shed light on the contexts and reasons behind Setsuwa tales.

I’m hoping to do up a multimedia immersive environment installation and hopefully including some audio visuals as well, whereby it will be an experiment on abstraction, symmetry, movements and audio.
I’ll mostly be experimenting with abstract visual effects such as particles, fluids and fractals.
The medium/software that I’ve chosen would most probably be Houdini and I’m hoping to use TouchDesigner as well.

Moodboard and inspirations

The two ideas I have so far either explore body horror and abjection or a personal narrative exploring memory, journaled and documented through zines.
Artists that I find applicable
Makoto Aida: I love Aida’s style of body horror. After looking through pictures of other work featuring ero guro nansensu, I did feel that a lot of the work previously created was mainly for shock Read more →
Visuals: Spaces and Perception

‘The Treachery of Images’ cleverly highlights the gap between language and meaning. The first work I linked by Ulises Carrion was something I came across a few days back in Museo Reina Sofía, Madrid. The simple framed text pulls the viewer in to read, to ponder, to visualise. While the meaning in the text contradicts the setting of it and the Read more →

The Space In-between

This is the second proposal I have floating in my brain at the same time as I guess it’ll be good to just put it out there. I figure I could somehow tie it together with my first idea.
