@ Pamzy Wamzy

I’ve decided to focus on “Life on Europa” as my project as it includes both space and DNA related thingy (sort of).

After doing some research about Europa and reading about the news NASA recently released which, created quite a hype among scientist, I’ve decided to do a short abstract film based on it.

@ The Allan Show

Last week’s consultation directed me to zero in on the focus of making something more modular. Placement of bits and pieces and visuals and crafts can lead to different end results in creating sound.

In my first prototype( in progress) outlined in my previous post, my process shows that the assemblage could be in a way a tribute to the birth Read more →

Found an inspiring video on Facebook about the education system.

Couldn’t embed the video here because of file size constraint, so here’s the link.

@ sgoh013

Propose a project: What are the reason(s) or aims for doing project?

People make assumptions everyday be it trivial or not but many do not realise that it is the brain that colour the way things are seen. Senses can be fooled easily and therefore seeing isn’t always believing as anything in an environment could be assumed based on individual perceptions. Read more →

@ sgoh013

Gestalt Psychology is the study of how humans perceive things in patterns rather than separate components. The word ‘Gestalt’ is a German word for shape or form of which embodies the idea of grouping or unified whole. Gestalt theory has certain laws of perceptual organisation to outline the fundamentals/principles of it.

For a start, some of the keywords that I rooted for wanted to be a huge part of my FYP.

From the keywords, I branched out to several more words for the quality that I want in my final work.

*3 keyword definitions from dictionary.com. The rest annotations came from me.

Since starting my research, I’ve found some great DIY videos on Read more →

Artists featured

Wong Lip Chin Ruben Pang Donna Ong Gilbert & George (UK)

Key take-away points

In Singapore, there isn’t a sense of individualism, as from young, we are taught to stay within the line and not to stand out or be different, unlike the culture in the west. But a contemporary artist is an individualist, thus being an artist in Singapore, there is tension.

@ Beverly Goh

Going with the encouragement to pursue photomontage as well as illustration, I sought out the work of Yobunoshi Araki, to find pictures of the disturbing and abject, a term described by Julia Kristeva as “the human reaction (horror, vomit) to a threatened breakdown in meaning caused by the loss of the distinction between subject and object or between self and other. wow! these are so dark and disturbing- yet powerful....the decay and distress of some images - is making them more abstrcat..that would be a possible way to treat or "eat away" the parts of the image leaving more a hint of the horror. Giving the mood and atmosphere would be more powerful than having everything revealed. Maybe glitch integrated with the image. I see potential of combining all these with abstract drawing as well.. I really like combination of real and reconstruction of space landscape in Bavar's work..

Propose a project: What are the reason(s) or aims for doing project?

With graduation just around the corner, the unknown of life itself awaits, and it frightens me. As a Singaporean, life has always been structured from young. The next step in life is always planned out, pre-school, primary school, secondary school, polytechnic then national service and ending with university. So Read more →

it would be good to look if any artist from Singapore has addressed the issues of existence and self, - or "I". Maybe looking into Singapore Biennials...Donna Ong  http://donnaong.com/
