Completing the costume

This is a video of the electronics on the skirt. The wires were still loose so it only worked on occasion or when I touched a part of the skirt.

The idea of a virtual touch is interesting, with a completely different sensation than the normal physical touch. The feeling was quite surreal, for you do not feel yourself touching anything, yet the touch is depicted in the virtual screen. Interacting in the third space set up through Adobe connect, participants are able to merge their bodies into one.

The virtual embrace seems foreign and novel though it is similar to physical contact in terms of how it appears on pictures. there needs to be adjustments of the body in terms of scale.

This visual touch doesn’t give a tactile sensation for we can’t feel the skin of each other. However, the feel when we did it is the sense of accomplishment because it is not easy to control our virtual body in order to be in sync/to touch the other virtual body at the same time. The virtual embrace is about touching virtually. There is no tactile sensation. However the virtual space connects two or more people together in a shared environment. In this space, we can manipulate space, scale, colour and even edit ourselves.
