Are You Happy?

Alexander Lim

A short piece I cut together from the footage, since 95% of everybody we interviewed say they are happy I decided to cut the most engaging pieces together with a light hearted tone to it. I just hope it does not come off as cheesy… which I feel it might be, on second thought haha.

Hi Alex, this is ok, but next time you film a vox pop (or any interview) make sure you get the light in the face of the subject - dark subjects against bright backgrounds don't come across so well.  Also the music is nice and energetic, but a bit too typical of this kind of montage if you get what I mean.  Overall though, decent work.  You could try one where you leave the responses longer.  We don't have to cut so fast all the time.  Best wishes, Paul.

A Tattoo Artist story

To the public eye, tattoos are a taboo. The idea of leaving a permanent visual on one’s skin doesn’t favour with most people.

But how many people see beyond the intimidating visuals and instead see fine artistry with a needle? How often do we stereotype these artists from their trade and instead see them as living canvases of art?

My thoughts on '52 Procent'

Cindy Chan

@ C I N D Y

52 PROCENT

I feel like there’s a strange connection between the definition of beautiful, perfection and proportional in this film. There are difficult expressions like fear, tension, pain and extreme weariness throughout. ’52 Procent’ shows the ambitions of a young girl who aspires to be a ballerina and works hard for it because she is 0.4 less proportionate than perfection.

52Percent, more like 100%

@ LimSiYuanAlexander

52% reminded me of one of those artsy films, oh wait it most certainly was.

I feel it adequately shows the how more is said when less is said. Having it’s strongest moments in silence. For example silence after the talking head interview was more impactful for me rather than her talking about the dream she had.

@ Ting Chou

Throughout this whole documentary, there’s no dramatic emotion. Just only a panel of stern looking judges and are subjected to a rigorous medical examination. Alla’s legs are too short, she tries to meet the admission requirements with strong determinations although she’s still a child. With the help of her mother, she does painful exercises at home that will hopefully lengthen her Read more →
