The rough cut is in place. The next step now is working on the screen recording and putting it into after effects to create the “zooming in effect”.

The initial idea for “Disconnected” was to use the “full screen” screen recording but I realised that with so many things going on the screen, it might be distracting. So instead, it would Read more →

"Noah" // Research on Screen Recording Technique.

Goh Ansen

@ Track

At the initial stage of “Disconnected”, I was largely inspired by this short film, “Noah“, that did storytelling entirely based off a screen recording.

I wrote to the director and editor a couple of days ago asking if they could share the technique of how they did “Noah”. They just wrote back to me and introduced me to the screen Read more →

A Little Test 2

Goh Ansen

Saturday, Oct 01, 2016 - 07:32:42 pm

@ Track

So in the previous test, what I did was to photoshop the interface of The Strangers Network, and overlay it with 2 separate video files.

In today’s test, I’ve screen recorded Omegle’s interface and overlay it with pictures and video files. The result can be view here – https://vimeo.com/185126068/c7bb14a403

A Little Test

Goh Ansen

Saturday, Oct 01, 2016 - 03:21:22 am

@ Track

So, today I took the interface of Omegle and made it into “The Strangers Network”.

Thereafter, I tested on screen recording as well as photobooth recording. The little test can be view here- https://vimeo.com/185019035/6a57678f3e

Photobooth recording was the top video, and the screen recording was the bottom video. Photobooth recording allows for audio recording as well, as such we’ll be using photobooth Read more →

Shut-Out (Draft 1)

Matthew Lee

Monday, Sep 12, 2016 - 10:38:39 pm

@ Matthew Lee

Here’s the first draft of my script Shut-In. >Shut-Out< Its still a tad too long, will work on shortening the screenplay in the next draft.

I went to the premise of suicide as Sebastian suggested, a man who has lost everything and still decided to give one last try at living. Though I will probably not dabble in the elderly as Read more →

A bulk of the script was inspired by Abraham’s suicide in order to achieve realism.

Abraham’s reason for committing suicide – “The suicide note stated that he had hurt other people and hated himself for being a failure.”

In this instance, it is a broadcast website, where many people had the opportunity to Read more →

The Way of the Otaku

Matthew Lee

Friday, Sep 09, 2016 - 04:56:02 pm

@ Matthew Lee

After much deliberation and taking Sebastian’s advice in mind, I contemplated the thought of playing around with the character backgrounds and trying to figure out the different scenarios while keeping the main arc somewhat similar – guy rushes into other house, finds guy dying, interacts. Finds the juxtaposition of the meaning of life. One that wastes his abundance of life Read more →

Jack's Idea for Directing Class' Short Film

JACKSOAT

Friday, Aug 19, 2016 - 07:12:55 pm

@ JACK;s-OAT

Hi class,

Below is the idea that I have for my short film. Please do have a read and feedback with comments. Thank you!

Promise by Syahir Jack Ezekiel

Thank you guys! Have a fantastic weekend ahead!

Sounds like potential for some insane cinematography - glowly altar lights, slow fuming incense, etc. The part about chanting "come back" in Chinese does sound a lilttle odd though, in my opinion i think it doesn't need to be that forthright. Perhaps a gesture like "cradle-rocking" in her seat, pushing anyone that tries to sit in the seat beside her away or putting food in a rice bowl that belongs to no one at the table, saying the Chinese respectful "eat" to an  empty chair might work better. All the best!
I really like your idea and the subtle twist. I think it would be very interesting to see this play out as something slightly horrific and then turn it into something so emotional towards the end - but at the same time, still chilling.
Hi Matt! Thank you for the feedback. Truly appreciate your comments on the chanting. I do agree with you and I think it will be a little too odd and a giveaway too if she keeps chanting 'come back'. I certainly don't want the audience to be fed with too much information about the twist. Yup those suggestions are great! I'll keep them in mind (because prior to this I've been wrecking my brains out and thinking of like ways of how one would deliberately disrespect the customs). Thanks again Matt!
Hi Ansen, thanks for your comment! Yup the overarching direction and mood will be horror and then it immediately turns into a love story. Creepy yet emotional. I aim to attempt to reconcile horror and romance at the same time without showing too much cheesy moments, like the movie 'Ghost'. Let's see how things go! Do continue to feedback if you have any!

@ letsgetphorreal

I’ve got to admit, I never like to answer these questions. I don’t think I could choose, and at the instance I am asked it the answers just escape me.

That being confessed, I shall siphon off the top of my head, this lovely Japanese film I recently revisited: Nobody Knows

I watched it when I was much younger, and since then Read more →
