Prototype documentation for our semester project, ume.

ume are interactive paired devices meant to subtly connect friends, lovers and family in different locations. It was made using Arduinos, LED bulbs, PIR sensors and ultrasonic distance sensors.

Cat in the Box

A mini project, where the appearance of the cat is voice-activated. Should the sensor sense a louder volume (input) above a certain threshold, the box lid will open up, revealing the little cardboard kitty (output).

The kitty’s appearance was aided by servo-motors, activated by a Phidget Interface Kit.

Lazy Scratcher

Lazy Scratcher was done with the use of a phidget and software – Max7 MSP. Trying out the possibility of scratching just by a soft (or hard) press of a button to get the satisfaction of a scratch…without really scratching.

Tissue please is an interactive device prototype made using Phidgets motor kit last semester. The perfect companion for anyone with the sniffles, it offers you a tissue when you sneeze and wishes you good health.

In the course Ubiquitous computing my group and I worked on creating solutions that could create a better study environment in group activity rooms. The solutions used sensors to get information about the environment (no explicit user interaction was needed) and the data gathered was analysed by a computer.
