Duprat's Aquatic Caddis Fly Larvae

@ chen0907

Created by French artist Hubert Duprat, these are aquatic caddis fly larvae, with cases incorporating gold, opal, and turquoise, among other materials. The professional knowledge of entomology of Duprat is essential and indispensable part of success of collaborative art work with nature.

This is animal cruelty! No just kidding, i guess insects are okay to use as artworks but not big animals like sharks and cow doesn't it? I find it strange though. But Duprat's work is very detail and i imagine executing this work would be a challenge for him.
Good that you put in 5 tags, that will make it easier to retrieve this project when we start to look at all of them together. How about adding (obvious!) tags like: animal, jewel, gold, miniature... etc? what do you think?
It is a smart way, hire and animals to work for you for free.

Infinite Polka-Dots

@ KENDRA+MELTZER

Yayoi Kusama’s known as the Japanese Queen of polka-dots, designed an art installation exhibition entirely filled with an infinite amount of dots. She used different room which contained different sizes, colour and style of dots.

I saw a smaller scale one at the recent Art Stage last week. It's pretty breathtaking actually. Like a state of trance. However, I feel Kusama's repetitiveness in using her polka dots have been really boring and she need to try new things. But I understand that it's her trademark but still, oh wait, she's mental.
hi Kamarul, do you have a link or photo (that you took yourself?) from the show you saw at ArtStage? Be interesting if you post stuff like that, especially if you can recommend it to others, if it was a good show... or what do you think?

Caitlind Brown created the beautiful interactive installation sculpture cloud; created from over 5,000 reappropriated domestic light bulbs. The audience interacts with the piece by pulling on the strings which turns the lightbulbs on and off creating a lightning effect.  innovative

This was in Singapore as well a few years ago! Though i didn't get to see in person, it looks really good in pictures! I enjoy this work as it encourages interactivity and also contain the element of working together.
This was in the Ilight festival two years ago. I actually got to play with it. It was well done as it was well put together, weather-proof etc. It could withstand people pulling the light bulbs to turn them on and off
Robustness is an important point - again, the idea might be simple but the technical execution needs to be well thought-out and executed. As it apparently was in this case.

Welcome to Dismaland

Dismaland is an pop up art exhibition located in the UK created by the artist Banksy. The artist explores themes such as apocalypse, anti-consumerism, as well as pointed social critiques on celebrity culture, immigration, and law enforcement. This grim them park capturing a warped vision of ideal happiness.

Categories: case-studies
I really like this work by Banksy actually! It is very interesting as Banksy is trying his hand on other medium as well. Other than Banksy, it also feature other artists as well and I like this idea of creating a space specifically for a theme exhibition.
I feel the same as Kamarul! I've always been intrigued by the works of Banksy, and particularly the dark humour he brings into his work. I like how the whole atmosphere of the theme park was planned out, and wish I would be able to see it for myself one day if it ever happens again!
This project was particularly fascinating to me, as an avid lover of themed parks and Disney in general ... What Banksy and his team had done really brought "a whole new world" to the once happy side of Disneyland, showcasing the flaws of our society instead. Some parts of me still feel unease with the negative tones of the project, especially the installation piece of the refugees on a boat. It is a wake up call targeted to us, fortunate people. Despite that, I'm sure that others feel more than delighted and lucky enough to be able to catch Banksy's work in action!

The One With The Art Stage

ArtStage Singapore is an inaugural art fair in Singapore, at the Marina Bay Sands convention centre. A lot of art galleries from around the world come together under one roof to showcase their collection. This major art fair has been one of the important Art fair in South East Asia. It’ll be interesting to see the planning in this project.

Categories: Case-studies
yes, I am interested in this too, seeing that every year it attracts so many people and also having so many participating galleries. It must be a headache to plan for this.
I was at this art fair a couple weeks ago, it was amazing I was so impressed and blown away by so many pieces!

Ai Weiwei’s ‘Tree’

Chou

Thursday, Jan 21, 2016 - 06:23:23 pm

@ Ting Chou

Ai’s trees are made from parts of dead trees that are brought down from the mountains of southern China. The trees look natural from a distance and artificial from close up. Tree has been likened to the modern Chinese nation, where ethnically diverse peoples have been brought together to form ‘One China’, a state-sponsored policy aimed at protecting and promoting Read more →

The logistic of bringing down the trees from the mountains is very tedious and needs a lot of planning and executing it.
I like how the concept where Ai Wei Wei used dead trees from the mountains of Southern China to signify unification for 'One China'. Interesting piece!
Made me think of the famous 'Stone Forest' in Yunnan, I'd love to see it for real one day! I have a small piece that I use as a side table...;) Now let's see if this becomes a clickable link: https://www.google.com.sg/search?q=stone+forest+china&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiH6pCetdvKAhVVCI4KHaSkDYEQ_AUIBygB&biw=1501&bih=1051

Step into Infinity

The space is filled up with mirrors and small LED lights which reflect infinite dots in the space, resemblance the Brilliance of Life. Yayoi Kusama has the obsession in poka dots and suffers from hallucinations caused by experiences that terrified her.

Categories: case-studies
The installation of the mirrors needs planning and the skills of an experienced worker.
This is a pretty grand and pretty installation! Can imagine the amount of LED lights and mirrors needed for this project.

The Weather Project

@ Ting Chou

The Weather Project, representations of the sun and sky dominate the expanse of the Turbine Hall. A fine mist permeates the space, as if creeping in from the environment outside. Throughout the day, the mist accumulates into faint, cloud-like formations, before dissipating across the space. Olafur Eliasson takes this ubiquitous subject as the basis for exploring ideas about experience, mediation Read more →

Installing the huge 'SUN' would need a large crane to bring the 'SUN' up there. I was at the Turbine Hall in Tate Modern a couple years ago, and the place is huge.
This project reminds me of the time when I was on exchange in Sweden and experienced winter for the first time. I didn't know that the sun sets as early as 2.30pm in the noon!
LOL if you go far enough north the sun may not even show itself for a couple of weeks! Ask Erik and Kristoffer, their home uni is in Luleå i think..!
It's really weird how the weather turns on our mood. After almost five years in Luleå, far up in northern Sweden, I can now say that I honestly get why people fall into depression och hibernates during the darkest months. When it comes to human well-being, wonder what the ideal climate is? Doubt it's the one we experience here in Singapore;) However, a playful and interesting project!

The Nobel Banquet

Imagine the preparations for the waiting staff and chefs for the annual Nobel Banquet which is held after the Nobel Prize Ceremony. The banquet hosts 1300 guests including the Swedish Royal Family.

Categories: Case-studies
I can only imagine the amount of fresh ingredients they have to prepare before cooking all of them. Cooking for 1300 is difficult as each plate have to have the same consistent taste and look.
Wow 1300 guests! I can imagine that it can be a nerve-racking event for the waiting stuff and chefs, but I am sure that they are honoured to participate in the Nobel Banquet.
I'd love to join that multisensorial feast one day ;) Apparently if you're alumnus from Sweden, you can apply... I'm sure it's a long waiting list! Meanwhile, we'll have our own parties right! IM-BBQ, anyone...? as in the old days
I know a group of researchers who investigate the perception of artistic plate arrangements - apparently odd numbers of items, arranged circularly, are preferred..... intriguing!

Case Study - Wicked

@ Pixel 林

Wicked is a Broadway musical telling the story of the wicked witch of the east from the Wizard of Oz. The planning and practice that has gone into this award winning musical must have taken months or even years.

Other than the stage design, the make up of the stage actors takes a lot of time, so even the execution is not just the performance, it also include the pre-performance, which is the make up and costume as well. I don't want to be a green witch.
I remember reading this somewhere else; someone had brought their red/green colour blind friend to see Wicked for the first time, and that person was so uncomfortable throughout the musical because they thought that everyone was treating Elphaba so badly just because she was black.
