The movement of the character usually have some element of those people working in the studio as they will be the one doing the motion capture of the character. I'm guessing.

This project prove not only human are crazy but we are capable of achieving anything if we put our project planning right into it! HAHA.
A cool project who got alot of attention, although it got beaten only two years later by a guy from google.
This took away the "mission impossible" feeling that Red bull wanted to bring out.

Floating baby!

Marc Quinn’s “Planet” by itself is spectacle to behold. It was conceived in 2008 to depict his then 7th Month old son as a sleeping baby and appears to be “floating”. He describes it as a paradox – “hugely heavy, yet the bronze appears weightless; overwhelmingly big, yet also an image of vulnerability” and also “It is both a reflection Read more →

Even before moving it here, the design and how the sculpture is so beautifully craft and made really amaze me. Definitely a lot of preplanning was put into this one.

Container Houses

@ ylim033

The use of containers as a building material has grown in popularity of the past several years due to their inherent strength, wide availability, and relatively low expense. Homes have also been built with containers because they are seen as more eco-friendly than traditional building materials such as brick and cement.

However, there have been concerns about the environmental friendliness of this Read more →

Yeah container was suddenly a craze for pop up store or houses. But it talks a lot about the planning of these Containers. They are abundant and abandoned by shipping companies because they realised they doesn't want them anymore. Just shows that their planning really sucks to give away their container.
Something similar: NTU is building these "ready made" rooms and stacking them up like lego bricks. It's called "Prefabricated Pre-Finished Volumetric Construction" (PPVC). http://media.ntu.edu.sg/NewsReleases/Pages/newsdetail.aspx?news=a4153518-de12-41bd-93f8-c124800b5791
I skimmed the article you linked to, and this stuck: "Relatively untrained people can build a room that size of simple wood framing in a day without needing to rent a crane or learning how to weld for about the same cost (or less) than buying a used container." and also his discussion on using local materials for cheap buildings. What's the "cheap materials" in Singapore? can we access & build larger structures with it? Also read the press relesase Pearlynn posted - - - where on Campus will this be built I wonder? I mean, our Uni doesn't have AFAIK any architecture department so this might be either imported designs, or entirely MAE-driven ideas... will there be art?
Besides the possibility of smaller environmental impact than traditional constructions this kind of buildings has to have a fraction of the assembly time than a normal building. This can be beneficial in a lot of situations were decent buildings needs to be established fast.
This points to the present, crucial need to alleviate strife for refugees. Cheap, temporary buildings. Even IKEA has some: http://www.businessinsider.sg/ikea-refugee-shelter-2015-11/?r=US&IR=T#.VufE0nCNvug

‘Spatial Illusion’ – The Austrian-born artist Peter Kogler, is known for his extensive work with illusory pieces, employing classic trick-of-the-eye techniques. He creates these these mind-bending, illusory installations that the walls within these creative pieces morph and change, as viewers walk through the space’s continuously altering environments.

I am sure he have made a prototype of this project before executing it in the public space. A lot of planning and handwork eh!
Will people see this and vomit/faint? I remember seeing these lines at one of the Halloween events in USS and wanted to collapse. -o-
Yes definitely. I'm sure he put in many hours behind the scenes!
Haha maybe it applies to people who have motion sickness? But will this installation be interesting enough for you to attend?

The Ice Hotel

@ K W

Every winter for the past 26 years, artists arrive from all over the world at the end of November to construct the Ice Hotel in Jukkasjärvi, 200km north of the Arctic Circle. Ice is transformed to art sculptures and architecture that is set to attract thousands of visitors before it melts away in the spring.

I really love the idea of The Ice hotel! I was there a month back when I was in Sweden and its interesting how the ice is transformed to art sculptures and architecture. However, this project is not meant to be long term as it will melt away in the spring.
The ICE HOTEL concept is actually a very interesting and clever idea actually. It is exclusive and this creates desire for people to want to come here and stay. As it is only build during Winter, this hotel is season specific and conceptually good for marketing as well. It gives once in a lifetime experience and people don't mind paying a little more for this experience.
Wasn't it in Quantum of Solace that Bond goes into an ice hotel in Iceland and orders a martini "on the rocks"? Seriously, ice is a traditional building material of inuits, and in the summer they use tents. It's a wonderful example of how the rhythms of the year define the culture and creativity of a people.

The first spacecrafts on Mars

@ n1501891g

Viking 1 and 2 was the first U.S. spacecrafts to land on the surface of mars in 1975. The mission was planned to go on for 90 days, but NASA were able to monitor the spacecrafts for up to four years.

If you watched those hollywood space mission movies, it always shows how they start looking for people, train them, go through a simulator and a lot of other medical test as well. So flying people out of Earth actually takes a lot of planning and executing. I always fancy the idea of exploring the world 'out there' but millions of money is being spent on space mission but I don't think we have found any information which is really worth knowing to us people.
I'm both for and against this project. There's no doubt that this is a huge project management-wise. I understand that people are interested to know if there is any life out there and where humanity should go next but I completely agree with Kamarule, is it really worth it? Shouldn't we focus on reducing global warming through sustainable energy production and consumption, reducing the chance of human extinction?! It feels like projects like this is more of a battle between nations about who has made the most progress in areas like science and engineering, or at least it used to be. But apparently it's worth it, just look at super-entrepreneur and one of wealthiest person in the world Elon Musk. The goals of his entrepreneurial endeavors revolve around his visions to change the world and humanity by setting up human colony on Mars.
Interesting that both of you have mixed feelings about the usefulness of space travel. Some people are quoting exactly 'human species survival' as a main justification. See e.g. http://www.businessinsider.sg/5-undeniable-reasons-why-humans-should-go-to-mars-2015-4/?r=US&IR=T#.VugfUD-Kvug. BTW BBC has a 30-minute radio podcast on NASA's Mars program, now running......

Vocaloid: A robotic singer software

@ Artefactually Lost

VOCALOID is a singing voice synthesis program that lets robots sing when you input music and lyrics into it. It initially started out with English and Japanese voices and has since branched out to Spanish, Chinese and Korean. When the developers felt that the voice program needed an image, they created “Hatsune Miku” who gained much popularity thereafter. Check out Read more →

This is absurd! It's crazy how so many people could cheer for this cartoon character! I just don't see the reason behind this and this just shows how popular these character can become. However, in terms of project management, it has successfully attract thousands of people so I got to give them credit.
I think this would be a project that gather much contrasting feedback from people! I think it's pretty cool, but also really absurd at the same time. It would be interesting to hear an explanation from someone who is in that crowd as to why they are so into it! It would be also interesting to know what the creators were thinking, why was a "mainstream" singer not enough for them that they wanted to created a character and robot to sing?

Instagram as a medium for art

@ Real life

ARCADIA MISSA/AMALIA ULMAN , instagram : @amaliaulman Interesting concept that this artist used her instagram as a platform to perform. It “fooled” many and she gained alot of followers fast. She must have planned the pictures that she wanted to post very carefully so as to create a narrative and construct a identity.

So she's a project manager managing her own project! I like how she use instagram as a platform and a medium for her work. The content is the one that makes each instagram account different from one another. I wish her all the best and I really enjoy her posts.

Case Study - Paul Kaptein's Warped Wood Sculptures

Perth based Artist Paul Kaptein sculpts these mind bending warped wood sculptures. Not only does he need to know the human body he must also put much thought into how those forms would look like when warped.

Nice feature darryl! Yes, I agree with you, he must have done his research and work to know how a warped body will look like. That will takes some time in making this work. I particularly enjoy this work as it speaks about how photoshop know is able to warp body parts for the sake of commercialism.
