@ SYLVESTER

Hi there again! In this post, I’m gonna explore different techniques based on the artists that I’ve researched on! Let’s jump right into it!

Tara Donovan

Tara Donovan is an American artist who creates large-scale installations and sculptures made by everyday manufactured materials. Material such as Scotch tape, Styrofoam cups, Paper plates, Toothpick, and drinking straws were used to create large scale sculptures that often have a biomorphic quality. Read more →

@ SYLVESTER

Hey guys! Today I’m gonna show you a bunch of mono-prints I did in class! I did not take any photos of the process but I do have some cool prints to show you. I scanned all of them and some eventually make the cut for my 18 lines!

I brought some materials to class, hoping it Read more →

..if your self-made tools were "bones" of the project- these monoprints are definitely "flesh" to your emotion evoking concepts. Love the large optimum resolution of the monoprint for the OSS. Always check and avoid "thumbnail" size - as we have the unique opportunity to "see" all the details ("nerves and bloodstreams") that would have remained invisible in the hard copy monoprint.

Mark Making Tools

@ Glojira

For my first mark making tool, I wound up brown string onto a pencil.

For my second tool, I tied a string to a screw driver and dangled it over my paper. I quite liked this because the outcome is always somewhat unpredictable and that is exciting:)

For the 3rd tool, I combined a few of the brown strings together and Read more →

@ Lazybug's Anatomy

My mark-making tools are fountain pen and strings.

This mark is made by fountain pen and ink. I felt that using ink, I can express raw emotions (usually negative emotions). The contrast is strong and the saturation of the ink give desirable effect.

These marks are made with strings. Some of the marks I bounced the strings saturated with ink. I Read more →

Mark Making Tool and its results

@ Just around the Riverbend

For my mark making tool, I was interested in creating something that would allow me to experiment with Chinese Ink, as I wanted to explore the difference between the textures made by the Chinese paint brush versus a less versatile tool. This is the mark making tool I made out of a wooden stick I found on the ground. I shaved the sides Read more →

Here are my mark making tools:

@ tinnethea

Below are drawings of lines using a traditional medium, a pen.

The rigidity that is found in Mondrian’s De Stijl paintings is intriguing, being that rigidity, for me, symbolises suppression – a trigger for fear or uneasiness. I also played with the tones of the boxes created by lines through thinner or darker lines.

Another method of showing such emotion is still Read more →

Project 1: My Line is Emo Pt. 1 - Tools and Mark Making

@ tinnethea

Using chopsticks as my handle, I was able to create three different mark making tools. One of my favourites would be the chopstick wherein I sliced through its end so as to create spiky and rough texture, allowing me to produce dot-like effects on paper. Despite it being interesting, however, it did not allow me to make bigger and more Read more →
