@ Pumpkins Cats and Doodles

I had some idea of what a Zine is before this project, but mostly from the poets (?) on Tumblr, so I think they might be my biggest inspiration for this project.

I also looked around a bit on Pinterest, and I’m sure I picked up one or two ideas along the way, although there wasn’t anything particularly specific. So.

4. Other Art Assets

There were two sections in the Zine that needed decorative art work to fill the space in the spreads. Seeing as to how all the work that I created during this semester were being used as Featured material in this Zine, I decided to create a few more simple works to finish up the zine. The first of Read more →

3. Sound Scapes

For this section, I wanted to recreate another instance of my moire animation compositions. This was going to be based on the sound signatures that I created for Typographic Portrait. I followed a similar process to generate the various sound signatures.

I looked through online data to find that Karachi and Buenos Aires were two of the most noise Read more →

2. Data Visualization

For this section, I wanted to create visualizations about something chaotic, presented in an orderly manner. I decided to use facts and data about wars to create this visualization. Firstly, it fit the theme of what I wanted to do, and secondly, the data was widely available.

I looked around at the capabilities of both Circos.ca and Tableau. I Read more →

1. Cover

Designing the cover was a slight challenge for me. I was adamant about creating one that was unique and representative of the zine. At this point, I still had not picked a name for the zine and decided it would be best to leave it to the end. After looking at all the proposed content for the zine, I decided that I Read more →

Now that I had my initial thoughts and ideas, I decided to commit them to paper and start planning out my entire Zine. The first thing that needed to be done was to firm up the contents of the Zine.

Ina had initially cautioned us against creating too many new assets for the zine. Instead, she had asked us to Read more →

@ carrots

When thinking of ideas for my zine, I knew I wanted to create one that featured animals, since both my project one and project two were about animals. One of the zine ideas that caught my attention on Pinterest was this:

@ DENISE WYY

The general layout I decided to go with was simple and straightforward – text on left and image on right. This mirrored the concept I wanted, which was a story book zine.

Came up with 3 different colour schemes, eventually settling with the red and warm tones, which would go well with aged/toned paper.

@ Eureka!

I have now decided that my zine should have elements of tracing paper as well as Korean words.

I will now be elaborating on how I tend to showcase the 3 different traits about myself that was previously mentioned in my zine.

Greed 욕심.

I came up with a poem to be placed beside the text saying:

How much is enough?

When will I stop?
