@ Sang Musang

Overall, the typographic portrait project is an amazing experience because I have lots of fun trying out stuff. I usually do digital imaging so for this project I’m trying to see whether I can do traditional methods as well. I also used to associate myself with Greek deities as a link to all my artworks and my love for theology and history.

Excellent works! Different materials have different tactile quality and are nicely harnessed with your concept. you did challenge your concept with a more novel performative presentation... it would be great to have a FEATURE image visible for your OSS posts :) so it can be reflected on main class feed page!

Now that my stylistic research is done, i proceeded to look for inspiration from works themselves,

different artists who manage to utilise typography in their works.

It would be good to again include one of the images from this page as the featured image for your post- it would reflect on class feed page with more graphic presence and will be easer way to get audience to check your outcomes

@ Sang Musang

Since the number of portraits have been reduced to four, I’ve narrowed down the candidates to be:

Agender Ice Queen Runner Child/Nostalgia

Which, to give some sort of coherence, I’ve changed them to associate myself with different Greek deities:

Hecate’s Acolyte Heart of Hera Hermes’s Prodigy Son of Aphrodite

A Takato Yamamoto inspired piece. Attempting to put in symbols that represents me (full moon, carnations, etc).

Managed to gather a lot (really Read more →

you did get into heart of this project- now the skills should include proper documenting: It would be good to: - include a better scan of the original drawing 'Sketching stage – Hecate’s Acolyte'- scan at 300 dpi as you can reuse for ZINE project and reinterpret it with the original text that you included in presentation... - include digital proposals as well- before they were cut out and printed! Hello! my name is Songyu, and i love to play with materials. I like using hands on, direct approaches

to my work, and thus i decided to experiment with such in this introductory project. For this, i

used 3 different mediums. Fire, Pen ink, and Linoprinting. All 3 pieces have some

correlation to the idea Read more →

Typographic Portrait Research

@ Song Yu

For this project, i started off by looking at references from avant garde media and styles, such as in dadaism and

Russian Constructivism, particularly in how they managed to use typography within their work.

Artists like Hannah Hoch were also inspirations for me, as the way she composed her

work, Read more →

Your ideation stage in this project resulted in a variety of potential solutions - they were nicely resolved and combined in the final piece. Please double check as your post appears under new category 'Research" and should be under Typographic Portrait ( research) We can double check in class tomorrow.

Final close up:

Branches// Finding me I can hide and may be hidden among the crowds at times. My heart may be hidden to. But if you look close enough, you will definitely find me in there, somewhere

Fishes in water// I feel like i am like fishes out of water, not fitting into the environment that i am in. However, at Read more →

Is it just me or the file size limit for each picture is getting smaller? It used to be 4mb and now it cannot be bigger than 2mb?
It is so much nice progress from you to follow over the last six weeks! I am definitely keeping track record and am appreciative for your weekly posts on your cutout series and on design solutions! Please here are few 'cosmetic' suggestions: 1) in this post the image on the wall ( 2d corridor :) should be the one at the very end of the post :) I like the top image ( animated!) as well as how you have documented the rest by the concrete wall For Follow-up images are great as stand alone. But please consider to include for the each stand alone image corresponding caption- what was the sentence for each image:" My name is ...and I am..." As one can not read the tag lines off the photo taken.

Off to the last! Mountains!

I initially wanted to add my chinese characters into this piece

I found many many inspiring examples on pinterest.

I really like this layering of the sky instead of the actual mountains to show the illusion of having mountains. I found out that the importance of knowing where my light is coming Read more →

I LOVE THE TOP IMAGE of FINAL FOUR! so much work

With the completion of branches and water, I have decided to go with roaring waves and mountains for the final 2 piece.

Making of waves:

I was influenced with the japanese style waves, which I did for my last semester EGO project too. I like the strength that it gives and also the creativity that I am allowed to go with it.

the idea of "waves" is nicely used in combination with Japanese aesthetics. So the wave has specific meaning implied using that particular style. There is a nice feeling of freedom in your template drawing that was successfully and with confidence translated into paper cut .

Sleep.

Don’t we all never get enough of it?

How hectic our lives are as ADM students.

Compounded with the fact that I am an unpredictable insomniac.

I legit am afraid that I am unable to sleep and thus be unable to function the next day.

It’s so frustrating.

Sigh.
