The final image for assignment 1:

The challenges I faced were

Deciding on the final direction I wanted to go with. There were so many ideas I had that it seemed such a pity to just focus on one but due to practicality and time constraint, I eventually settled on what I feel I could do. Technical skills could be improved. I feel Read more →

@ Project

“Effervescence”, was designed for square windows along the “J-walk” of the Ng Teng Fong Hospital.

The series is meant to be experiential and to evoke calm and therapeutic at first glance, to aid the recovery of patients. My inspiration was from mother nature, which has naturally occurring organic forms. Thus, organic lines were adopted to create wave-like motifs that create Read more →

Rhythm through nature & typography along the travellator as one moves along it. Tried to keep it simple so that the lighting from the outside of the window would highliht it and cast upon colours on the passersby. The use of chinese characters was meant to be something that became a design instead of focusing on reading it as it Read more →

I really like this series though! It has a strange taiwanese/japanese zen feeling to it, something I've never seen in your work before. Oh maybe you could have coloured the salt yellow/orange with chalk before scanning to make it look more like pollen? idk if it'd work though, just a suggestion :p

Finalise design

To show my process obviously, I made a GIF to show how the design changed from the beginning to now.

From the design below compared to the above, I felt the waves was too heavy and I decided to add more white lines and also changed the black curve lines to white line instead.

The colour for this looks smooth Read more →

@ now[here] yet no[where]

Above is the final piece:)

It depicts the journey of a girl and a whale, and the tenderness between them. It is a very simple visual that spans the whole walkway, easily understood, yet recalling the simplicity of childhood, or times less burdened, more exploratory and whimsical.

The walkway is dyed a comforting blue as the viewer travels with both whale and girl, temporarily Read more →

Final Work

My concept surrounds the theme of nature, which has been proven to be very therapeutic. I chose our national flower, the orchid, which people would recognize, as my main element. I wanted to bring a sense of familiarity into the space though something that people could interpret easily regardless of age or background. The sense of familiarity would hopefully Read more →

Concept

Bubbles wafting into the air; this would bring to mind childhood and fond memories. The colours are meant for the sun to cast a joyful myriad of colours onto the floor of the space- bringing the viewers to enjoy the passing experience; allowing them to take their mind off difficult matters. This was inspired by Read more →

Close your eyes and picture this:

A symphony of rustling leaves and silent creaking bamboo stalks surrounds you. A gentle breeze caresses your face as you take a deep breath which smells of damp forest and moss. The rays of the morning sun filter brightly through the softly swaying stalks, casting ever-changing shadows on the lush undergrowth. Coolness is deep Read more →

My work focuses on bringing the familiar aspects of the ordinary Singapore heartland to the hospital, providing comfort to the patients and staff who spend most of their time away from home. The windows into a more homely environment elsewhere, shape the sterile and stressful environment of the hospital into something warmer. At the same time, it provides Read more →

@ =Wilson's Portfolio=

Moving on from last week, I have decided to focus on the sapling design as I was more keen towards it as compared to the one with water droplets. Nonetheless, there were many feedback and considerations taken in, allowing me to tweak my design further before finalising it.

Based on the previous design, I have maintained the concept of transparent and Read more →
