The visit to the ecopark gave many good opportunities to try out the Hasselblad especially given the good weather and vibrant colours around. I edited my photos based on how I remembered those scenes looked like. The original positives turned out rather desaturated with an orange cast. I adjusted the levels, saturation and masked the leaves to adjust the colour of Read more →

Eco Park Adventure

Fits

@ Fits

For one of our lesson, we ventured into eco park to test out our medium format cameras. There was a lot of uncertainty on my part because whilst the camera that I rented out looked like any ordinary SLR camera, there were a few mechanisms that had to be pushed/pulled for it to completely work. But overall, it worked out Read more →

This assignment needs one to recreate a photo of the past, the elements repeated in the recent photo. Lighting, colour and the such are taken into consideration.

The above was the photo that I have decided to recreate. In retrospect, the image had so many elements to it that were difficult to find and come together. However, as soon as Read more →

Photographer who inspires me: Steve McCurry

Rebecca Yang

@ rebe0009

My inspiration would be Steve McCurry, the photographer who shot Afghan Girl for the cover of National Geographic in 1985. I think what strikes me the most about his work is his portraiture style and the way he shoots people in general.

He has very good control over the lighting conditions and the use of colour, often being able to make Read more →

@ DYAN HIDAYAT

We recently visited the Ecopark nearby school for a photo trip. It was a bright sunny afternoon and we had our hands on the medium format cameras. The photos above were taken using a Hasselblad and a roll of a Kodak Portra 120mm. During the trip, Elke guided me Read more →

Assignment 1 | Deja Vu

Dyan Hidayat

Wednesday, Feb 08, 2017 - 01:04:00 am

@ DYAN HIDAYAT

Above is a picture of my dad’s brother from the early 90’s! I had chosen this picture because I thought it had a very endearing quality that can be found in family photo albums. I was drawn to the harsh shadow caused by the flash and the subject being out of focus, both of which were probably unintentional decisions.

With these two Read more →

Restaged Photo

@ Light | Sound | Design

In the restaging of my father’s photo from when he was a baby, I mainly concentrated on trying to recreate the diffused light from the right. I used a window with sheer curtains to naturally diffuse the light. However, the angle of my father and the window in the restaged photo illuminated only half his face. I thus tried Read more →

Assignment 1 - Deja Vu

Han Feng

@ hfmak

Original at the bottom, c. 2000 when Empress Place was being renovated. Image differs a little in perspective due to different lens used, the earlier photo was probably with a 35mm, the recreated photo was with 24mm on 1.3x crop, and the original photo was taken at a lower height.

Nice! It hardly changed ;-)

The above is a photo from 1987, featuring my dad’s friend. I thought it would be interesting (and convenient!) to recreate it at today’s NTU South Spine. Looking at the photo, I observed the guy looked quite dark, shadows were not very harsh and highlights were not very bright either. the lighting around the building appeared quite even so I Read more →
