Assignment Brief: To design a space in a two-part project (#1 Analogue, #2 Digital) that responds to the theme: SPACES for CONNECTION, COMMUNICATION & INTIMACY.

Response: During this time of uncertainty and anxiety caused by COVID-19, spending time quarantined at home during the Circuit Breaker and having to return back to school and work after has brought out an unusual feeling that I have Read more →

Daryl, I'm sure that those who visited "From Womb to Tomb" during the end of semester showcase would have had a unique experience that gave them an opportunity to rest and perhaps reflect inside your installation.  I hope that those who came by enjoyed the experience.  You did a good job!

Context

Upon the completion of the mid term projects, we were tasked to further develop our concepts with the help of technology for our final project. My mid term project was titled Dis-harmony, a simply anamorphic perspective installation of a bonsai tree made out of found objects. The concept behind it was simple: to find harmony in the chaos that Covid-19 Read more →

Rui Hong, I think you did a commendable job on your final project and it has evolved considerably since the first iteration.  There is potential to further push the poetic qualities of your project using sound and movement.  What is interesting is the metaphor of static/noise used both visually and aurally to convey the notion of ambiguity.  This could be explored further to greater impact I think if you were to design your own soundtrack.  Well done and a good effort overall!

Amanda I hope that you received visitors during the end of semester showcase.  I'm very happy that you transformed the dome into a temporary art installation that provided a sense of wonder, amusement and was disturbingly playful.  I hope those that visited enjoyed the experience!
Thank you Kristy for the guidance and feedback for this project I wouldn't have been able to reach such a stage without you, Dejan's and Bryan's help! Those that visited enjoyed it thoroughly and it was quite a successful installation!

WARM-UP THE NEW NORMAL

PLEASE WARM YOUR HANDS

Many of us had difficulties adjusting to the new normal as we found ourselves suddenly held to a whole slew of restrictions. Safe-distancing measures place crosses between us, discourage us from talking to each other and gathering in large groups. They challenge our ideas of proximity and relationships Read more →

Man Wei, I think you did a very good job developing your final project and it has evolved well since the first iteration.  You were challenging yourself to find a way to communicate very subtle aspects of human communication through traces of body heat that connote presence/absence.  This is not an easy challenge but you did a very commendable job with the results!

“Switch Loop”

Description:

A series of installation stations where participants establish dialogue with each other only via audio. Each station will explore a different aspect of the phenomena of ‘audio’. What type of sounds are evocative or highly sensory? The two participants form a closed loop with each having control of what the other person is hearing in real-time. They Read more →
