@ A M O O N D A

After looking through my sketch and concept this week, I decided to focus more on how to portray the uncomfortable part of the concept. Thus I did more research on how to portray my physical objects (the childhood transitional objects) and how I could play around with them to show the creepiness or slight discomfort of these items. Thus, I Read more →

All 3 ideas are interesting. Idea 1 relies more on careful observation while 2 and 3 are based on the same concept of revelation by "shading light" but are open to more arbitrary allusions (because you can draw whatever you want). I also prefer idea 1. You need to pay attention to the selection and arrangement/composition of both transitory objects and regular table items in order to achieve the desired subtlety of transition in perception. So, you will need to experiment.

Yixue, I think you have potentially very interesting possibility in this setup for your project.  As we discussed in class today, the key will be how the materials (rope or other material) will work to realise the concept.
yes i am excited bout bringing it to realisation as well!

Overarching Thoughts — bodies & Virtuality

Rafael Lozano Hemmer talks about the concepts of ‘body’ and ‘space’ and how they operate in similar manners and are not necessarily discrete entities. A physical space or monument though ‘permanent’, its meaning and purpose is subject to the course of time and mirrors the change in society. Hence it is as equally Read more →

Singapore Heritage Light Up Singapore Event

@ Rui Hong

What is it that is being communicated?

The fact that these buildings were purposefully chosen; the close proximity that allows viewers to walk through them communicates the curator’s intent on emphasizing the handful of buildings that were involved in the show. This was likely to communicate the richness of culture that the young nation have cultivated in the rather short amount Read more →

Illuminating Embodiment: Thoughts

Rui Hong

Wednesday, Sep 09, 2020 - 03:21:14 am

@ Rui Hong

“Lozano-Hemmer’s work is informed by histories of art, science, technology and diverse philosophical currents. Because of its conceptual complexity it cannot be described as an illustration of any specific school or theory, yet consistently it reveals ‘the fullness of space’ in relation to both the body and technology.”

Lozano-Hemmer’s work challenges the supposition that buildings control bodies.

In exploring virtual openings in architecture, Read more →

Softening The Edges - Thoughts on Illuminating Embodiment

@ DARYL_final_final.kj

I’d imagine what Rafael Lozeno Hemmer is trying to do is to ‘soften the edges’. Other than the functional purpose they serve, whether as a form of shelter or a place to gather, the reason why human have such distant or little emotional relation to architecture is because of their cold, hard and immovable structure.

In comparison to a human body, Read more →

Snippets of Lozano-Hemmer’s works can be viewed here! [12:35 and 13:16 for my personal favourite cuts from Body Movies (2011)]

Lozano-Hemmer’s works subject architecture to fluctuation and instability not only in the literal sense that facades are projected with fleeting moving images, but also within the unpredictability of visual outcomes and activities generated. His works invite spontaneous engagements with space and Read more →
