ONE: Cat’s Point of View
What Point of View? Cats of course! Here are some research of how cats see the world.
Here is a video from literally the cat’s point of view.
Here are some of the pictures Cooper the cat from the video has taken.
This is a similar video in which the owner attach a GoPro onto their cat.
What cats do at night!
Here is the last video from the point of view of a cat (I promise lol).
Speaking on which, there is a cat who knows how to take selfie using a GoPro – Manny the cat:
BuzzFeed has a post on it and here is Manny’s Instagram.
I found a Japan tourism website Cat Street View, with a concept similar to Google Street but from cats roaming in Hiroshima. This short article talks about this Cat Street View feature.
How humans think cats think about thinking about being a cat.
Now to get into how cat think!
The Dear Kitten series is both entertaining and useful as it is about how a house cat mentor a new kitten. It is useful that it is from the cat’s point of view and how they interpret daily household effects and objects. There are more on YouTube and above are a few of my favorites.
Yet another video of how cat thinks of their human owners.
The Adventure of Business Cat is a comic where the protagonist is a cat in an office setting, this comic shows how a business cat would react to daily business situation from the point of view of a cat.
Another video of things cat do but acted out by a human.
TWO: People’s Point of View
Here are my research of how people view cats.
THREE: Force Perspective
While researching I have also come across something called the Force Perspective and I would like to make use of this in this project.
Another reference would be from the book Big Format Advertising by Basheer Graphic Books (review by Parkablogs here). It is a compilation book of advertisement around the world that plays on the design principles of scale. One particular ad that I like is Frontline: Mall:
FOUR: References
The art style I want to go for this time would be to reference the comic artist Samantha Whitten of her GamerCat comic series.
GamerCat employs a simplistic stylized look while suggesting certain details to bring out the emotional context of the cat. The cat is also anthropomorphic to give it human-like characteristic.
Another comic artist I would like to reference is Australia illustrator Jake Lawrence. I admire his style in simplifying complex feature to make them cute and visually appareling. His Tumblr blog can be found here.
I also find inspiration from Steven Universe’s Lion character. I like the art style and how the character behave.
Perhaps for the background of Force Perspective, instead of using photograph, I could draw it but in the style of Tiny Guardians – a smartphone game, with coloured outline and details in the shadow and slightly less saturated colours so as not to distract the focus away from the characters.
For drawing background, I have looked to drawing guide by professional artist Thomas Romain on Kotaku:
1) How to Draw Detailed Buildings
2) Tips for Drawing Backgrounds

All in all, for this project I want to split the 6 frames into 3-3 with one from each of the 2 perspectives (owner & cat) using Force Perspective and a simple comic-cartoon style that is similar in scope from Project 1 and improving from there.
BONUS: Cat videos and memes!!!
Pew pew pew.
A short film that play on the word “Catalogue”. MUST WATCH FOR CAT LOVERS AND PEOPLE DOING 4D MODULE!!!
Something more mellow and heartwarming~
“Toothless stawp you are doing me a frighten.”
