nursery rhymes

nursery rhymes. most of us would have grown up
listening to them one way or another. this project
aims to celebrate that rhythm with the various
compositions. without looking too literal, that is.

Composition 4

hey diddle diddle, the cat and the fiddle

the composition is inspired by the combination
of elements found on a fiddle imposed on the cats.
Composition 3

she gave them some broth without any bread

each child was offered some broth, but bread was
not offered. the break lines suggest a barrier, a
visual prevention of sorts while the counter pose
serves to catch the viewer’s eye to the center.

Composition 5
she had so many children she didn’t know what to do

the spectrums are made up of multitude figures of a child,
composed to form a flourish, akin to a drop of water falling
and spreading upon the hard ground.
Composition 1
Composition 2

and the cow jumped over the moon

the first composition has the slab of beef that
vaguely resembles a cow in shape being placed
over the block of cheese (one would believe that
the moon was made of cheese as a child.)

the second composition shows the same slab
of beer flourishing beneath a piece of mooncake,
an interesting contrast of east (mooncake) and west
(the origins of the story.)

Composition 6

there was an old lady who lived in a shoe

the portrait of a lady is superimposed upon a
stiletto and only parts of her face are revealed
clearly, akin to her being “in” the shoe and
openings, a portal to view parts of her from
shoulder up.

Composition 8
all the king’s horses and all the king’s men

the spartan war helmet is placed upon the horses’
heads and then the image is repeated, resulting in
the white negative space suggesting an image of
the king’s crown.
