2D Assignment II – POV Final

Good day everyone! So this is my final post for assignment II and through this post, I will be showing you guys my thought process and the ideas derived towards my final outcome.

Final Outcome

Screen Shot 2016-03-17 at 1.24.42 AM

My chosen word is “Madness” and I guessed Madness to everyone means crazy or mentally ill, but it can be interpreted in a positive manner rather then something bad or dark. In this case, I have chosen 5 famous people that showcases their madness throughout their life and became successful and famous thereafter. Namely, an Actor Heath Ledger, A singer Lady Gaga, a Scientist Albert Einstein, an Artist Vincent Van Gogh, a Writer Edgar Allan Poe and lastly, Myself.

The 6 sentences are:

  1. Madness from the point of view of Albert Einstein is an Idea
  2. Madness from the point of view of Heath Ledger is The Joker
  3. Madness from the point of view of Lady Gaga is Fashion
  4. Madness from the point of view of Vincent van Gogh is Masterpiece
  5. Madness from the point of view of Edgar Allan Poe is Macabre
  6. Madness from the point of view of Me is Love

The chosen medium will be done in digital painting. On the left will be the usual and normal self of that person whereas on the right, will be the madness side of them.

A brief descriptions

For Albert Einstein is an Idea because his brain is always filled with ideas and his famous quote was “Doing it again and again and produce different results”. His belief and trust in himself is something that people admire him for. Plus the fact that he came out with E = MC 2 out of nowhere and he can even use a higher percentage of his brain compared to a normal human being. Hence, for the delivery, I chose to use his brain encased with a lightbulb to show that ideas are always flowing inside him and that makes him mad.

For Heath Ledger as The Joker, I hoped everyone have watch the movie “The Dark Knight” and realised how mad this person is during his speech towards Harvey Dent. Part of the speech goes “You know… You know what I’ve noticed? Nobody panics when things go “according to plan.” Even if the plan is horrifying! If, tomorrow, I tell the press that, like, a gang banger will get shot, or a truckload of soldiers will be blown up, nobody panics, because it’s all “part of the plan.” But when I say that one little old mayor will die, well then everyone loses their minds! Introduce a little anarchy. Upset the established order, and everything becomes chao. I’m an agent of chaos. Oh, and you know the thing about chaos? It’s fair!”.

Seeing how Heath Ledger act as the Joker in the movie clearly tells me how mad this person was. Even after his casting as the Joker, he is having issues reverting back to his normal self and died because of acute intoxication. Hence, I decided to use the Joker face along with the weapon of a pistol designed with cities on top of it. Plus the skeleton card to strike fear in people that joker meets.

For Lady Gaga is her fashion. Based on the fact that she is always dressed differently and she is constantly trying to be indifferent from other popular singer. Pretty much her style and way of approaching things in life. One clear example was the meat dress, who would have the courage and mad enough to even wear a meat dress out in front of the public. So, for this delivery, I intend to showcase her accessories that she wore and also the famous album “Applause” where she smeared her face with multi-colored paint and surrounded by a white sheet. This smeared makeup look for the cover is to symbolize the moment at the end of a show when the performer is vulnerable and longing for the audience’s approval. Plus, the meat fashion sense to represent her hair.

For Vincent Van Gogh is his masterpiece. Pretty much due to his unique vision and his technique in his artwork to communicate that beautiful vision to the world. His work has always been an influence to artists from post-impressionists to abstract expressionists. Another mad fact is that he actually cut off his ear. He is known as the tortured genius who cut off his own ear as he struggled with mental illness after the breakdown of his friendship with a fellow artist. Thus, for this delivery, I will be combining 5 of his famous artwork, Starry Night, Church at Auvers Surmoise, Laminas De Sus Obras Dealta Calidad Mla, The Mulberry Tree and Sunflowers.

For the famous book writer of all times Edger Allan Poe. This person is a real legend when it comes to gore or horror stories. Macabre which means gruesome and horrifying and he is said to be the person who originated body horror. Even his death was unknown. Why? no one knows but i believed he is mad. So, for this delivery, I have chosen his infamous Raven logo along with a representative skull head to show the mad side of him.

Lastly, I chose Myself as the last composition as I want to tell you guys how I interpret madness as. It means Love. In our life, I believed everyone have seen how mad a relationship can be. People who are willing to spent their entire life for their love ones and doing all sort of crazy staff to make their loved ones happy. I mean is crazy, and yet no one can explains why our emotional react this way. Hence, I have decided to portray my heart along with a grenade to show how intense and dangerous love can be.

I would say this assignment truly push your art boundaries to the limit. Theres no restrictions and there are so many ways in interpreting something. I am glad I chose the word “Madness” to play with, showcasing all the famous people and how I portray them in their madness way. I believed madness doesn’t always show a bad side of them but also through their madness they are able to gain fame and being special in their way. But please, do with caution! Be mindful that things might go awry. =)
