For this semester project, I want to create an experience that allow people to feel what it is like to not be in control of their lives. One idea was when I came across this term ‘Post-traumatic stress disorder’, PTSD in short. PTSD is a serious potentially debilitating condition that can occur in people who have experienced or witnessed a natural disaster, serious accident, terrorist incident, sudden death of a loved one, war, violent personal assault such as rape, or other life-threatening events. All effects varies from the impact of trauma.
Rather than focusing on the cause of PTSD, I want to focus on the recovery from PTSD. As there could be many causes of PTSD be it kidnapping, war, rape, the recovering from PTSD takes months and years (depending on the impact of the trauma).
My idea is to create a interactive wearable(device) headdress/helmet/ mask that will block off the visual and audio senses when it detects any human activity (in front) of the user wearing it. The device will slowly open up when it senses no humans in front of the user.
Note: User CANNOT move when the device is closed.
