4D Stopmotion – Portal HD

Hello, and again, welcome to the Aperture Science Enrichment Center.

Today, we have lab experiment X who is endowed with the abilities of portal opening.
This is the surveillance of his experiment.

Actually, it is an action movie developed by our Enrichment Center that is available to view on all mobile and handheld devices.

Storyboard – Finale

Hey ya friends!

Project 1 has finally come to an end and i would like to say that it has been quite an interesting and thought-experimenting journey.I would like to say that my class people are one of the most creative people with their own personal style to their creations which results in diversity of work.

Coming to the storyboard,
The first picture shows James Van Graham as a boy sitting on the edge of the moon and stars…

So… One day, James was searching the web which he didn’t know would get him into so much trouble.

The sunflower at the background represents longevity and happiness which is actually a juxtaposition to his near future.

Stumbling into the darkness of the deep web, James got entrapped into the hands of someone or something much more sinister…

Feeling that something was amiss, James decided to log out from the deep web. Just before he could shut down his computer, a white box popped up at the corner of the screen saying…

Feeling a sense of paranoia… James called out to his parents. Awhile later, His dad’s head stuck out the door at a weird angle, followed by his mom. Momentarily… a tall man dressed in a long cloak emerged from the darkness, holding on to the severed heads of the couple…

After completing the designs, I felt that this storyboard was more like individual posters symbolizing each scene rather than an actual storyboard itself. As such, the context of text becomes an important aspect in contributing to the flow of the story as without the text, the viewer may get lost.

In conclusion, i have learnt and seen many techniques through this project and i cannot wait to apply what i have learnt to my future projects!

String Project – Completed!

We started a new project this week and boy! how i was so annoyed and frustrated by the pulling of the strings and putting the needle into the thread! Just kidding, it was still kinda fascinating to see the patterns and planes that form while creating interesting weaving techniques.

Although my study models failed terriblyIMG_5027This one had the greater success rate out of the rest

All of these are still in their experimental stages so I’m pretty much hopeful that the actual model would turn out great!

Update #1

Yess! Finally got an inspiration from this picture.

With this design in mind, i started working on the layout of the plastic sheet, which eventually looked something like this… img_5156

I started off by cutting out the flaps and then making the holes.

Within the duration of the class, i managed to complete the sculpture. img_5158

I was so glad with the result despite the many times that the string screwed things up, accidentally stabbing the needle into my finger… it was all worth it.

Update #2

Felt that the strings didn’t contrast well with the clear plastic sheet so i redid it, at the same time cleaning up the marker stains.

The final outcome was much more dynamic and i added a twist at the top.

I gave it some “tapered” ends so i adjust the tautness of the strings whenever the sculpture feels too slack.

Update #3

I wanted to experiment with another design and i thought it turned out alright. I didn’t really like this as i felt it was more “feel up empty spaces for the sake of feeling it”.

Stay tuned for more…

Update #3

YESS! Finally done with the string project!

Took out the thread connecting the top to the mid-section as i felt it was messy and redundant. The final outcome was much more simplistic and clean.

Removed the tapes img_5251

Overall, i felt that this project really played with the strings of patience and craftsmanship as precision was required to give the sculpture the tension it needs and also to ensure that the tension does not loosen.

Even though, it was difficult to come up with the design and execute it, i manged to accomplish it!

Thanks for taking the time to read through this post and hope it entertains you in some form or another!

At the start of this project, i felt very unmotivated as i was still waiting for inspiration to strike. As i started browsing through the web, slowly but surely little bits of inspiration started popping into my head like tiny light bulbs. Riding along this wave of motivation, i completed the pictures one after another while feeling a sense of satisfaction. However something seems to be lacking from the photos or so it seems…
