This project has allowed me to understand myself and my confidence with the camera. I wanted to create a consistent look and feel in my photos. The high contrast, the film like colours and the somehow casual yet staged looking photos.
Artist Study
Part 1: Me
This photo shows the two different sides of me. The painting reflecting the bright, excited and always smiling girl I portray on the outside. The worried me in the photo revealing the insecure and negative side of me I’m always
flighting with.
Me: Time
A year ago I was stuck between wanting time to stop and wanting it to go faster.
I was too young and inexperienced for the working world and I felt too old to continue in school. I was stuck in this space where I couldn’t move.
Me: Pageant
My life for the past few weeks has been about colourful costumes, elegant walks and flamboyant characters. It’s really bringing me out of my comfort zone but I guess I’m just going to give it a go.
PART 2: Object
My glasses is an accessory that gets noticed by many people.
I am not comfortable with contacts and my glasses is an object I need and rely on everyday.
I took this photo after an afternoon nap.
How the evening light shines into my bedroom creating this warm glow.
It was also mentioned during my presentation in class that it looks as if I will change into someone else when I remove my glasses.
PART 3: MY WORLD
My World: National Museum
A series of photos I took during the night festival in Singapore. I wanted to allow the viewer to experience the night festival from my point of view.
Therefore, It was all taken from my eye level and I am not in any of the photos. I didn’t want any of my friends to be cautious of the camera.
My World: Sea
This was taken at the entrance to the national museum. We were excited and curious to what lies inside the museum . As if stepping into a portal to another world.
It also shows my love for crowds. I love the movement the atmosphere and power it creates.
My World: Our own act
The disappointed looks on my friend’s faces as we had just missed the last performance. We decided to create our own performance in the middle of the crowd.
I love how the red lights are painted on our faces, as if we are part of an act.
My World: The yellow walls
The whole festival was like a circus to me and I really wanted to bring that out. The coloured walls and people. This very surreal environment.
It was also because we had some drinks.
