Current Idea/Concept
diagram-01Deaf people are unable to hear sounds and unaware of their surroundings.diagram1-01

With the device, the hearing impaired are able to have better awareness of their surrounding. The product, with sound sensors, vibration motors and LED lights, will filter the relevant sounds. Only relevant sounds will be processed and alert the user. The sounds are categorized into 3 main groups: Critical, Social and Leisure. The product also lights up in accordance to sounds of the 3 main groups; Red for Critical, Blue for Social and Green for Leisure.

In the above scenario, if an alarm rings, the hearing impaired will be notified with a series of vibrations from the direction the alarm comes from.

In a social context, there is always an issue of reaching out/getting the attention of the hearing impaired. Therefore the user will be notified when his or her name is called. This reduces the unwanted/uncomfortable contact between the deaf and hearing people.
