Book sketches

After deciding on the usage of juxaposition in my equation, I drew up many sketches to showcase this aspect, and as seen above, you are able to tell that may thoughts have been put into this.

While sketching these, I felt that I was able to portray these expression  better in the case of editing my real face and changing reality through this process.

Photo-taking

With my home having a available home studio, I was able to take professional looking images with the good equipments and wonderful lighting. This made my final pieces to have a good constant look and is not patchy or unprofessional looking. The clean background also made my life so much easier when I was editing the image and changing the colours to include the colour theories that we have been imparted.

HELLO

Experimentations on surrealism

With the photos taken, I then took to account of the style of edits that I had researched and referenced from to create these few images. These are the ones that did not make the cut as I feel they were either not clear in the explaination, was serving no purpose to the equations, or could be improved even further which was then included into the final pieces.

EXPLAINATION OF EACH PIECE
a
INTROVERTION / SHYNESS

Using the tearing of paper to reveal my face to showcase me hiding behind something and also the colour blue emphasis the mood here of being calm and collected.

eFORGETFULNESS (GOLDFISH BRAIN)

The goldfish have always been associated with being a creature with a really bad memory. The showing of it eating bits of my "brain" off helps heighten the explaination. Been forgetting stuff lately, blame this bugger!

ego
SERENITY WITHIN ONESELF (ME)

The silhouette of me breaking through the paper and going into a "goldfish undersea aquairium" shows the calmness and tranquility I have in being me.

hSTRESS OVERLOAD

The juxaposition usage of a kettle in the form of my head emphasis the feeling of overheating/ boiling which symbolises and show the stress I put myself into sometimes. The redness definitely adds on the the whole feel of the image.
dTOXIC THOUGHTS (DOUBTING MYSELF)

As gory as it looks, I wanted to have a powerful impact on this situation & to have both blood and toxic waste to be spilling out of my head to show the expelling of these evil thoughts!

gFRESH NEW IDEAS (A BETTER ME)

Here I again use the juxaposition method with the lightbulb in the form of my head an vice-versa. this creates an interesting look and is also a fun way to have this meaning made.

cREALNESS (BOTH IN AND OUT OF TECHNOLOGY)

I used this method of having half my face to be of the phone while the other to be the real me to show that they are both same and that realness is what I want to portray as an individual.

lSAVING TIME / TIMELY PERSON

Me holding time; my watch, and having a halo above my head to symbolise this matter. Me looking down with a look of grace comically helps to show this reasoning of the image I created.

kILLUSION (THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS AN IDEAL PERSON)

Challenging the brief, I created this image that is interesting and provoking at the same time.

i copy copyHARDWORK / GRINDING MY SKILLS

This form of levitation of the adobe icons being crammed up into my head shows that I am trying to learn them all, but it is with difficulties. but with hardwork, all is possible.

fSHORT-SIGHTEDNESS / BELITTLING MYSELF

Adding a fun and punny explaination of this equation, it shows me struggling with my sight and also being shorter, both which adds up to it. I feel this this is a interesting outlook of the depressing sentence.

bADOBE SOFTWARE GENIUS (ME IN 5 YEARS)

With my head being opened out like a book, something associated with knowledge, I have pieces of pages containing the icons of adobe softwares to have a nice dynamic to this final answer!

Assignment 2: Nursery Rhyme

Rock-a-bye baby, on the treetop,
When the wind blows, the cradle will rock,
When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall,
And down will come baby, cradle and all.

Many theories have popped up around the world with what this nursery rhyme really mean? This amongst the rest is the one we are most familiar with, it suggests that the rhyme narrates a mother gently rocking her baby to sleep, as if the baby were riding the treetops during a breeze; then, when the mother lowers the baby to her crib, the song says “down will come baby.”

FINAL 4
297 x 297a(small)Rock-a-bye baby, on the treetop.

297 x 297b(small)When the wind blows, the cradle will rock,

297 x 297c(small)
When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall,

297 x 297d(small)
And down will come baby, cradle and all.

PROCESSES!

1. Rock-a-bye baby, on the treetop,

we

I tried to explore a few angles (as seen in the 16 exploration design below) of how the baby could be seen “on the treetop” and settled for a top view as it was more interesting. After creating the first design, I realised that the baby was not as prominent in the design as everything was using the halftone effect thus adding the crate to have a treshold effect.

Thinking that I was done on the second panel, the baby looked really weak on the test print which I had again and felt the need to just change the baby to one that has a darker shade not be overshadowed by the rest of the treshold designs.

2. When the wind blows, the cradle will rock,

process1

Created first with the spiral design, I love how interesting it has started out with, and the graphic look it portrayed. Trying to play with how the spiral looks, I tried to create a more dynamic feel with shifting the centre point.

Feeling that the focus point being in the centre creates better symmetry, I revert the spiral design back to the middle. With the rhyme being played in the aspect of trees, I included leaves to create a dynamic feeling of wind being blown in the form of a whirlwind.

3. When the bough breaks, the cradle will fall

process3

 tree-wood-texture-2

Trying to not do a very literal example of the nursery line, I decided to play with the texture of the tree as seen over here, and create a crack on it as well. This crack also acts like a tunnel or hole that the “cradle will fall” into to have an interesting element to the meaning of it.

Trying to not literally use a cradle, I tried with a baby first, but settled with a pacifier. Adding the graphic element at the background also acts like a flow of direction for the design, almost like a speed bump seen in games.

3. And down will come baby, cradle and all.

process4

Trying to envision the cradles as falling leaves, I realise that the message was not brought across as clearly as I wanted to, thus I incorporate some of the features of a real leave onto the cradle; the stem, tip of the leave, etc.

The background lines are added next to accentuate the graphic look I wanted in this series, also creating a sense of chaos with the different thickness and directions.

Here is a look into how I included the leaves into the cradles. As you can see here I also played with the looks of the threshold and halftone to explore which looks better, but in the end chose the threshold as it was a better fit to the look of the design.
