In Assignment 1, we were tasked to introduce ourselves through a series of images/ concepts.
Task 1: Me
I personally love food art/ photography and I thought it could be an interesting and fun way to a convey message. Firstly, I love pasta and the many different types of pasta and ingredients, depict the many things that occur in one’s life at any point in time. The first image represents my desire to find order and balance in my life. I feel that with a system, things will naturally fall into place. I also love intricate details and beautiful aesthetics. The second image show arrows pointing upwards, indicating that things will go in the right direction with order and balance, as well as the right values/ mindset. Thirdly, the plate of cooked pasta indicates that success can be attained using the “raw ingredients” mentioned earlier.
Task 2: Object and representation of self
The object I chose was a rose quartz necklace, a birthday gift from my friends, hence it is very special to me. The rose quartz is a calming and reassuring crystal. It strengthens empathy, sensitivity, and aids in the acceptance of necessary change. It also dissolves the sorrows, worries, fears and resentments suppressing the heart’s ability to give and receive love, and replaces it with healing, comfort and inner nourishment. Though it has been mine for only a year, I believe that it gives me strength in tough times. A clear mind and soul will eventually lead you to the happiness you desire.
Task 3: My world
The place that was significant to me was the library @ Orchard, located at Orchard Gateway. What fascinated me the most about this library was its beautiful architecture. Located in the middle of town, it is a place anyone would go for some peace and quiet, away from the busy shopping malls. Everything about this library was intriguing, especially the modern interior design such as the wavy book shelfs and CD compartments. I thought it was pretty cool that the library was designed by a team of Singapore Polytechnic design students and lecturers. 🙂
Hi Brenda, I like how you used food to depict the many characteristics about yourself!
Perhaps the for the first and second picture, the tiles could be placed more in line with the pasta? It currently feels rather out of place at the moment, being slightly diagonal and not in line with the arranged pasta.
Also, your necklace isn’t very visible in Task 2, perhaps because it’s very small. Could there be a way to make the necklace stand out more instead?
Love the presentation of the work! I especially loved how you used food as a medium to convey your love for pasta and it is something I won’t forgetti. Loves the symmetrical placement also. Keep it up and I can’t wait to see your next work!
Hey Brenda!!
I liked your presentation quite a lot, particularly cos of your unconventional approach to the first section. The off-center alignment for the shot with you in it irks me tho, hahaha!
As for the second section, I mentioned that you should take a closer shot that let’s people see you wearing the stone amulet, because at a glance, all I can see is you texting happily. Really like the second photo though!
For the third section, the second photo might have turned out nicer in B&W (really brings out the shape and texture of the shelf), but then again, you also can see the variety of stuff it’s holding. Pretty cool though! I’ve never been to that library before, so your photos are the first time I’m looking at it!
