Between the Pages

PROJECT STATEMENT
Between the Pages is an interactive fiction piece. It is a story of an exchange student longing for friendship and dealing with the loneliness of being abroad alone.

I had fun creating the backstory for this project. I tried to make Hannah as genuine as possible, as if she was a person who would exist.

The materials I used were mostly from my house. Things that I already had.

Instructions:

This work is an interactive fiction piece. There are hidden clues and points you can engage with.

  1. Your first goal is to find the journal. After which, you can use it as a guide to unlock pieces of the story.
  2. You can fill in the gaps through writing, drawing or leaving notes). You can add anything to enrich the narrative. However, try to stay true to the characters and avoid unnecessary graphic language.
  3. Please place any materials you find back to their proper place.

THE JOURNAL

I designed the hunt to be simple. One can stumble across the journal. They can use it to hunt letters around the library that showcased the complex and strange relationship between Hannah Allen and her friend who she calls Mr. Magoo (a name taken from the cartoon character).

CONCLUSION

When I found the journal, it was in a different shelf so it seems that someone had read it. I’m glad someone participated. However, no one really made an addition to the book. I think that maybe the design or the system I put in place hindered people from adding on to the narrative. I might come back to this project in the future. I found it interesting to create this world and delve into the mindset of another person.
