Ai’s trees are made from parts of dead trees that are brought down from the mountains of southern China. The trees look natural from a distance and artificial from close up. Tree has been likened to the modern Chinese nation, where ethnically diverse peoples have been brought together to form ‘One China’, a state-sponsored policy aimed at protecting and promoting China’s sovereignty and territorial.

The logistic of bringing down the trees from the mountains is very tedious and needs a lot of planning and executing it.
I like how the concept where Ai Wei Wei used dead trees from the mountains of Southern China to signify unification for ‘One China’. Interesting piece!
Made me think of the famous ‘Stone Forest’ in Yunnan, I’d love to see it for real one day! I have a small piece that I use as a side table…;) Now let’s see if this becomes a clickable link: https://www.google.com.sg/search?q=stone+forest+china&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiH6pCetdvKAhVVCI4KHaSkDYEQ_AUIBygB&biw=1501&bih=1051
