Getting my ideas for values
I initially had a hard time to choose a suitable value for my poster. However, the issue is not that I do not have a good value in mind, but rather there is too many values that I want to convey and is having difficulty in picking one. Hence, I decide to do my research of other simple shape poster while looking for inspirations and a suitable values
My Research
I started with researching on simple advertisements and events posters. Followed by searching on simple movie posters. Two posters caught my attention. Firstly, the poster of a beer event.
The poster is very simple, consisting only of a mug of beer. However, the texture of the beer mug and the overall colour of the poster created a cozy and warm feeling. Texture and colours can help a simple poster to convey a complex message.
The second one is a poster of Pixar’s movie “Cars”.
Similar to the beer event poster, this poster make good use of colour and texture on a rather simple design. On top of that, instead of drawing out a car that will directly tell the viewers what the poster is about, it make use of a traffic cone, that people will need to think and then associate it with the movie.
At this point, I already have an idea in mind that is associated with these two posters. It would be a combination of beer cup and traffic cone and revolves around the idea of been responsible and do not drink and drive. However, the message seems to be too direct and my “value” sounds like a slogan from the traffic police. So I eventually dropped the idea.
Lastly, is the poster of another Pixar’s movie “Up”.
The balloon which is the key element in the movie standout in the poster. Our eye is naturally drawn to it since it is the brightest and have the most variety and complexity.
At this point of time, I am thinking of conveying the value that we should not let what others say affect our judgement. And this poster, inspired my idea of having a brain floating above the clouds just like the house in UP and hence the quote “do not let others cloud your judgement”.
