Seeing faces in objects? Are we going crazy? No, that’s just pareidolia!

What is pareidolia?

It is a psychological phenomenon that causes some people to see or hear a vague or random image or sound as something significant is known as pareidolia (par-i-DOH-lee-a). This website contains many examples of pareidolia in every day objects.

Pareidolia in typography:

I Spot Alphabets

For this in-class activity, I teamed up with Jocelyn to spot all the sneaky alphabets hidden around ADM and North Spine. This activity was especially fun because it encourages us to be aware of our surroundings and take inspiration there. I guess you can say that inspiration is literally all around us!

The challenging alphabets that were challenging to spot are ‘G’, ‘K’, ‘R’, ‘S’ and ‘X’. That’s why when we finally spot them, we were so excited that we started screaming for joy. I was pretty sure that the people around us thought that we were crazy.
