My students in Internet Art & Culture prepare their study of artworks BEFORE I discuss them in class. In this preparation, they write up a Research Critique, in which they discuss the work using description and media I prepare for them on the class Website. Here is a post by Esmond, which is of particularly high quality. Note that he uses quotes from the reading I assign and incorporates these ideas into the following critique: Paul Sermon – Telematic Dreaming

I would also like to point out that stylistically his posts are very well done: use of blockquotes, media, and texts are clear and well laid out. We use the category “Research Critique” for all of these assignments. Students in my class become quite proficient at doing independent research as a result of this assignment.
