Interactive Narrative: Progress of the board

I decided to make the map more realistic to fit the over all look and feel of the design. However, I maintained the orange drop shadow on the design elements causing the design to look a little out of place.

I decided to change the drop shadow to match the current map so that they will seem to blend well together with the map.

As the board game involves cards, I decided to add card placements to make it part of the game after speaking to some of my friends.

[Interactive Narratives] Game Review

HerStory – Wikipedia

Herstory is an interactive video game where the player searches through a bunch of video clips from a database of police interviews to solve the case of a missing man, Simon. The clips show a woman, Hannah Smith who is the wife of Simon being interviewed by the police regarding the matter of Simon’s disappearance. The player could type down keywords that they think could lead them to the other video clips to find out more. From there the case would slowly unravel and reveal who the culprit was.

I have always loved playing games or reading books that involves mystery and thrill. Herstory lets me play as a detective trying to solve the mystery of the missing man, Simon. I had to listen attentively to Hannah’s statements. From there I have to pick out keywords so that green boxes will appear on the database. This was to show my progress of the investigation. I enjoyed the parts where the case was starting to make more sense as to why Simon went missing and then was murdered. I was very eager to find out what the ending was and played it for a long period of time. I felt that it was a creative yet challenging game where I had to find out all the clues myself and it felt like a role playing or movie scene.

It was not an easy game since I had to figure out what kinds of keywords I had to type so as to find new footages that I had not watched before. There were many times I had to rewatch the videos multiple times so that I could gather some clues on what keywords I had been missing out on.

I liked that the video showed the investigation scene, so players could experience the environment during the game play. The graphics were quite dull which was a slight turn-off but the content of the whole game made it mind-blowing and I refused to do anything else other than to solve the mystery. It is an addictive game. The controls were easy to navigate as it was just typing keywords and clicking on the videos to watch them.

Overall, I enjoyed the game Herstory as it gives me the opportunity to play from a detective’s perspective. The mystery and thrills of Herstory continues to linger in my thoughts after playing it.

Riverdale Comic Creator

https://riverdalecomiccreator.tumblr.com/

The website is a narrative site where the user can choose to interact with it via scrolling of the mouse or just letting the site auto scroll. It is interesting where the narrative is portrayed in the form of a comic book.

It can be argued that it is not interactive storytelling but I personally feel that it is in a way where the user can have a choice to interact or not. It brings comic books/ stories to the digital platform where it used to be available in prints only.

It may not be related to my final project but I felt it was good to explore different types of narrative interaction to expand on my understanding of it. I could probably use it for my further projects that I would be working on.

The Witcher 3: Wild hunt

The website enables the user to click and scroll through the map to explore the area. It shows a detailed map of the location and the red icons enables one to explore the place when it is being clicked.

Information of place

Inspiration: The placement of the elements in the interactive map can be used as a guide to know how to make the board game not too crowded and flow at the same time. Instead of clickable icons, the coloured dots will have cards to reenact the information displayed.

The simple colour scheme can be a way to join all the look & feel together. In terms of cultural festivals, there are many colours involved to show a vibrant style.

The website displays a map and when different locations are chosen there will be a storyline will appear on the right side. Arrows are seen to navigate around the map or the user can click on the different elements shown.

Development: The board game can take reference of how the player will navigate through the site to the board game. The different elements show different story line could be a way of showing the cards when the player stops at a coloured spot.

Future development: There could be a way to make the board game digitalised so that the players can play online with their friends without having to bring a physical board around.
