hui game + art installation?

dad

At this moment, I’m thinking of creating a mixed media installation.

The installation contains two ways narrative is consumed, passively and actively.

The passive narrative happens at the side of the walls, with projectors showing photos.

These are images that I’ve collected over the weeks before the death of my aunt.

These are images I tried to capture.

At the center of this installation is a game.

The game is a simple simulation of choice.

What would you do if you have 6 days left to spend with someone you love?

Here’s a prototype I made in Unreal. You make choices in this game, maybe simple straight forward choice or morally difficult choices.  Maybe you need to choose to ignore work for family, maybe you need to choose between members of the family.

In a given scenario maybe you find yourself having to choose between a sick daughter and a dying mother.

While I guess this game would have some  interest, it would be difficult to create a work like this without it feeling overly manipulative. Getting the player to be emotionally involved also makes it challenging.

Perhaps another time…

Concept for interactive spaces – Building a fan base

So My concept for interactive spaces’s first big assignment is to create an interactive environment using FANS.

Exploring with the concepts learned in lesson.

Quick exploration of organization

Exploration of space with hierarchy using size.

The concept is fairly simple. Place fans around a given space with a grid on to .  Have objects where the audience can create sound and visuals using the fans.

Tentative ideas

  1. Paper – paper makes a great sound
  2.  Balloons with objects inside them like bells , when attached with a weight it will rise and fall.
  3. Pipes
  4. leaves
  5. glass?
  6. Balls
  7. Plastic bag
  8. Cardboard – placed between the blades to create a clicking sound.

The objective is to create an interactive soundscape,

We can even feed the sound into a mic system and use the as the background sound.

I think that the different kind of sounds can really affect how this project will look.

Further more, we can even enhance the visual treat such as adding glow sticks to the fan blades

I think that the space can feel very surreal if we lit it like a neon forest.

In pieces

An interactive website that uses CSS polygon to create illustrations of endangered animals.

“IN PIECES IS AN INTERACTIVE EXHIBITION TURNED STUDY INTO 30 OF THE WORLD’S MOST INTERESTING BUT UNFORTUNATELY ENDANGERED SPECIES — THEIR SURVIVALS LAYING LITERALLY, IN PIECES.

Each species has a common struggle and is represented by one of 30 pieces which come together to form one another. The collection is a celebration of genic diversity and an attempting reminder of the beauty we are on the verge of losing as every moment passes. These 30 animals have been chosen for their differences, so that we can learn about species we didn’t know about previously as well as the struggles they have surviving. Many of them evolved in a particular way which makes them evolutionarily distinct.

Take for example the Kakapo, an animal which evolved without natural predators and thus didn’t require instincts to defend itself. Unfortunately — and as is the case with most of the species showcased here — humans began easily hunting upon encroaching their range, then introduced the stoat and other forms of pest control for other species. The Kakapo was almost completely wiped outthrough this introduction and fights on today because of this catastrophic lack of judgement.

When you dig into a lot of research around this topic, it’s not long before you see the real darkness that is going on. Millions of years of evolution has occurred and humans are in danger of ruining it through desperation for financial gain or greed.

There are some species here who as grim as it sounds, would require a small miracle to survive because the numbers are too low to rationally continue to exist, Vaquita being one such example.

In Pieces hopes to educate and inspire, and provoke thought on this complex and intricate topic. I sincerely hope that you can take something new away and enjoy this collection as much as I enjoyed researching, designing and building it. “

I found this website interesting because of it’s use of simple geometry to create very beautiful animations.

The Modern Prometheus

THE MODERN PROMETHEUS

“I do know that for the sympathy of one living being, I would make peace with all. I have love in me the likes of which you can scarcely imagine and rage the likes of which you would not believe. If I cannot satisfy the one, I will indulge the other.”

Inspired by Mary Shelly’s, The Modern Prometheus, the artists decided to take on this old classic and bring across the idea of the Monster as a blank slate.
The interaction with the artwork is largely based on mimicry. A face is projected onto the mask and the mask follows the person standing in front of the installation.

The artwork, also titled The Modern Prometheus, brings across this simple idea of the mimicry of the creation and the creator. The head is like the Monster in the book , limited in capabilities and child-like. It is for us to teach it to either be good or evil. The work serve as a reminder to all creators, artists and makers the role that we have in the lives of our creations. It can be capable of reflecting compassion just as well as cruelty. It is capable of both doing good in the world and evil. Our duality is reflected in the works we create and we have to choose and be conscious of our decisions.

In the book, the Monster was treated with cruelty and it became the monster that they projected him to be.   In our works we recreate to moment of “life” and make you ponder at this one moment how do you react to this uncanny creation.

We wanted the very moment that  made Victor Frankenstein utter those two words.

“Its alive!”
