To discuss: changes to form

I realized that the only part of my furniture that is not angular is the chair base as it is round. The reason for sticking to the 5 wheels round base is for stability as 5 wheels spread the weight evenly.

However, I was thinking, what if we still keep the 5 wheels configuration but change the base shape to something angular. So i thought of the pentagon, which has 5 sides that would fit the base nicely.

f1
The flat side of the pentagon is facing front so it also serves as a leg rest for the user while the tip of the pentagon sits nicely at the back where it joins with the pole.
f2
Perhaps this would make the whole aesthetic gel better without compromising on the stability/function.

Should I head in this direction?

  • Mainly about the aesthetic – table and chair’s form still not quite matching (chair’s round base doesn’t match)
  • set up a classroom ambience to display furniture for final exhibition
  • table legs stability – suggestion was to add a support for the legs in case they become wobbly in time to come?

Also added screws, 2 on each side to fasten the metal frame to the table top.

As for the colour changes, I chose more muted tones as suggested and went for pastel shades which looks more pleasing to the eye.

Also did a rough mock-up of the table 1:1 scale with cardboard and plastic sheets to test the size and i feel that it is just nice.

So I added perforations to the bag compartment to make it look lighter and also reduced the depth of it.

As for the table, made changes to the structure. This is the cross-section of how the legs are joined to the supporting structure.d12

Colour-wise, I chose this two because I want it to match to the colors that each school mainly uses (usually taken from their school crest) so for example, these few schools have blue and yellow as their school colours:

o i feel that the color usage here is not random but actually meaningful and can be customised according to each school’s colors.

For the undertable panel, we decided to make it translucent so it’s easier to look inside rather than just perforations.
(im still trying to figure out how to get rid of the black overlap part though) set7.23

This is how it looks like when 4 of it are joined together for group work. set7.25
