Necessity is the mother of invention. From our first moments of self-awareness, there was a need to improvise and create. This is where design began.
Design can be seen in the earliest remnants of prehistory. Cave dwellings, arrowheads, poultices, and knives: these items were conceived and crafted with purpose. We fashioned art from crude materials for no reason other than beauty. When faced with death and the unknown, we developed elaborate rites of burial and religion.
Design is not something that was invented in a specific year or time period. It is the essence of human creativity, and has existed for as long as human history. It is part of us.
