Curating Self

The object that I choose for this task is my cardigan.

Why I choose this object is because I think this object kind of represent me. It’s flexible, multifunctional. Cardigans could be used either at hot weather or cold weather. It protects you from sunlight or cold atmosphere. But, sometimes in life, hiding is not the best option.

The place I choose for this task is the ADM building. Because it’s the new environment that I’m currently facing. Hence, the message that I’m trying to convey is how I’m facing my new life as an ADM student.

task1

What I try to show in this photo is that the cardigan is the current me. And ADM is a new environment that I’m encountering. Thus, it’s a picture of me, looking at my reflection at the ADM building. Noticing that the reflection I’m looking is my current personality, flexible, but closed.

task1-2

In this picture, the current ‘me’ feels uncomfortable, scared, to the new environment. I sit there, as vulnerable individual, closing myself from the new environment. Hence, I hold the cardigan tight, showing how I’m trying to protect myself, using the cardigan as a shelter.

task1-3

But change is not always a bad thing. I need to adapt to the new life I chose by myself. Hiding won’t make things better. It will only make your life dull. Which is why, I take off my cardigan, coming out from my comfort zone to find the new ‘me’ as an ADM student. Notice that at the left side, the background is black and white, to present the dull life that I left. The colourful background at the right represents the new, exciting life I choose to live.
